Hi all..

something differnt for me, but much the same..

Im doing some repairs on my old mates sons HQ.. It has a 400 big block/9 inch diff, etc, etc.

He wants to get ready for the Alice Srings burnout comp... The boot floor is too far gone to fix.. I orded another for him, so while Im waiting I did the RH rear quarter section.. Pretty easy to do.. Just takes time.. I made the inner and the outer patch,, saved him some cash but I cant make the boot floor..

One thing Ive noticed is that the HQ metal is no were as good as the LC/LJ toranas,, its very thin and blows back a bit when welding.. suspect too many recyled washing machines ,etc in the mix.. Lots of impurites. No wonder they rust so easily. Prick of a thing to weld..

anyways.. got the RH side done, Ill do the left hand side today and the floor during the week.

Im going to seem weld the boot area/wheel arches for him, just in case he throws a tyre.. will make it a bit stronger...

Looks like fun. Remember the LC-LJ and HQ sheetmetal was all from the same source rolls and pressed in the same presses!

Looks like spot welds from a previous rust repair panel.

No mate. I tacked some sheet metal on to get the shape. This car is 100% original rust.

It will be that nasty zinc anneal that's making it blow back.

Ok, I just don't like zinc anneal for rust repair sections.

Cheers Dave
