Correct, but there are modifications and additions explicitly authorised under Clause 3. Mountings and Modifications Authorised: Paragraph (F): Transmission.

Group C had more freedoms than Group E, the auto transmission was not one of them though.

Thats sneaky..

Off the topic for a minute, but how did Ron Dickson get his HQ into races, including Bathurst?

Byron (yel327) would be the best person to ask about that but he doesn't come here anymore.

Hmm....good question...did Holden homologate the HQ in case the 350 Monaro was required to go up against the Fords?.

i guess HDT ran one  in the Rallies ( occasionally), so they must have been approved in some fashion.?

The Dickson/Stevens HQ GTS V8 was a 308 at Bathurst 1973.

Might have been previously mentioned, but the in-car footage of the opening

lap/s of the 1973 great race (XU-1 vid) is shot from the Dickson/Stevens HQ

with Dickson at the helm.

Sorry to side track the thread....just got a thing for HQ's :)

I think it's a bit of an old wives tale. I don't reckon you could weld the two door and the four door halves to the same roof.

I do have pics of a three door HX though.

"There was of course the 3-door LC :wtf: that was made at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane BUT that was a production line error and that car was crushed.

Now how much would that Torana be worth now  with 2-doors one side and 1-door on the other."

I understood it was some of the assembly line workers that instigated the 3 door LC (or was it an LJ?) not GM-H, so I 'll say Fiction, GM-H did not build a 3 door Torana.

Fact or Fiction.

The CAMS Group E 'Series Production Touring Car' rules required GM-H to build 400 LC Torana GTR XU-1 to attain recognition of it with it's 3.36 and 3.08 differential ratios.

Pics, or it didn't happen! :google:

Laurie, a bit hard to get a pic from that era especially if you were a person working on the production line with only about 3 minutes to do what you had to do in that section

So here is the proof from a fella who worked there and sent me this typed letter AND oh yes, I don't think that ANY workers at the Assembly Line back then would have even thought of carrying a camera at work

I was in touch with Ron who worked at the Holden assembly plant at Acacia Ridge and who was at there possibly when my ex LC GTR was going through the line.

He worked at the Wiring LIne and may have installed the wiring into my GTR depending on what shift he was on, on that day

eXarIG5.jpg

Unfortunately Ron died some years ago but as far as that letter is concerned, it is the truth as he had no reason to tell a lie especially when I didn't even ask him about it

Here is a bit more on the subject of "mistakes during assembly"

PMY9W63.jpg

AND yes Rob, you have a memory like an elephant, you and my wife should have been twins  :tease:

AND MAZ, check out the panels for the LC/LJ to see if you can make a 3 door sided Torana

RegardSS ........... Barry

Aren't the different ratios mentioned on the one homologation document? It's only a guess, but I will say no.

You are correct Laurie. It is Ficton. GMH were only required to build 200 LC GTR XU1 to homologate both diff ratios.

Fact or fiction.  For people who could not afford to fit their holdens with the Air Chief radio, GMH could sell them a more budget radio called the Air Ranger.
