G’day Laurie
The motors cast date has is E249 @ 8 o’clock
This engine didn’t have any of the original parts… manifold, water pump or timing chain cover-so no it didn’t have a timing chain tensioner.

It'd definitely have had one originally Laurie, 1969 block for certain had them.

G’day Viewers
Absolutely loving these stages of the build, so satisfying rebuilding components & reinstalling them.

Gave the heater fan & duct a spruce up to match the booster & master cylinder colour combo & replaced all the foams for all vents as well as purchasing a new heater core from Resto Country.

So good! Yep, I found this stage of my car really enjoyable as well.

Car work where you don't even have to be wearing dirty work clothes is nice, lol.

Thanks Tony
After a little wiring to sort out in the engine bay the motor and box goes in next…. I know you’ll be around for that mate.
Cheers Aaron

G’day Viewers
Exciting times with the heart going back into the Hatchback, a huge shout out to Tony Natoli, Marcus & his old man for their great help dropping the engine & box in without a scratch.

I hate lowering motors in with those horrible chinese jacks. You have to be sooo carefull when turning the release screw to let it down. Two hands on the handle the whole time.

That's why I bought a Crown MT walkie stacker. They are 1960's tech, you can buy them cheap as chips (especially if the batteries are flat), and they use 4 x 6V FJ Holden batteries. Even a good working one is like $2000 max.

Certainly take up a lot less room than a forklift when you aren't using it.

Yes, they are awesome. Floor space wise they take up less than a hydraulic engine lifter, just park them under a pallet. 20MT (or MT20):

I hate lowering motors in with those horrible chinese jacks. You have to be sooo carefull when turning the release screw to let it down. Two hands on the handle the whole time.

If you have one of the cheapo China engine cranes, like most people do, you can stick a proper handle on that release screw.

Or stick a bush in the end of the arm so it locates positively, and weld a radial arm onto the arm. Both of these things will give you much nicer progression/control of the lowering process.
I hate shit tools that fit together poorly. But everything can be fixed with a lathe and a welder.

Car is looking good.

That's a familiar face!
