Ive had alot of meshing problems that destroyed my aftermarket starter and chipped teeth of my aftermarket flexplate, ive bought a bosch starter now and need to buy a new flexplate.
I would go the magnum 308hd one, but i am paranoid that ill still have a problem with meshing so im thinking of getting an original holden one instead.
Any advice would be fantastic thanks

I haven't had meshing problems but here is my standard flex plate behind my 355.

Meshing problems maybe alleviated by correctly shimming misaligned starters.
FWIW I have found aftermarket flex plates to be very noisy on engagement.

I bought a heavy duty one but cannot for the life of me remember the brand sorry. If it comes to me I will let you know. It was just thicker from memory. It wasn't a TCI. Magnum rings a bell.http://www.magnumper...uemart&Itemid=2
I also changed the bolt size. Not sure if it needed it but I went to a 7/16 UNF chev bolt that had a longer shank so it acts as a dowel if that makes sense.
Just took the converter and plate to a machine shop to get them drilled so everything lined up perfect. The shank of the bolt is a neat fit in the hole. Held in with Loctite and tensioned up haven't had a problem since. (touch wood)
I think my original one may have had a bolt come loose but not sure as I always Loctite and tension them. I also don't know how old the flex plate was that I blew up.
Oh Forgot to add. Was running a brumby starter that I dint know the condition so it now has a VN V8 Bosch starter. Fits great and is physically smaller and is a reduction style....so I have been told.
I don't have any shims on the mounting but as TerrA LX mentioned I have read this sometimes has to be done.

Just one thing guys with you running these similar converters and HD flex plates, is the converter snugging into the back of the crank sufficiently to center it??

Have a look at what the HSV 350ci Holden engine had for a flex plate. I think they may well be a stock VR-VS 5.0L 4L60E example which is the same as a HJ-HZ TH400 example (thicker than trimatic one). If that is what is being destroyed then ignore my post!

Mine runs a standard Holden Trimatic flexplate, purchased new, been on 3 different engines, now behind an injected 363 (560ish HP), never had an issue, runs the standard old school non gear reduction starter, everything fits easy and always works.
Only standard Holden flexplate I've seen in the flesh as a failure had thrown a piece of the ring gear off in an Altered and it took a piece out of the powerglide bellhousing.
My previous engine used to be regularly turned to 8000RPM running 5.83 diff for the local 1/8 mile track. Standard size 3/8" UNF Bolts, torqued, and Loctite.

Is there a difference in size etc of a trimatic one or are they all the same size & fittment?

AFAIK they are all the same. But i'd use a HJ-HZ TH400 or VN onwards 4L60/4L60E one as they appear to be identical except thicker.
