Did hear it was coming, they were looking at the South australian rego model, heard victoria model is getting to abused, I think 60 days maybe a little low, should be around the 90 days

60 days per year is roughly every Sunday for a drive plus a few extra days thrown in, but do the other trips (from the old scheme) like maintenance etc. come out of your 60 days or are they not counted?

Also it's unclear in that article but they mention "non-original classic vehicles"... except modified vehicles were never permitted under the original scheme, are they now?

I heard instead of the H plates it will have M plates, if it can get a pink slip and is 30 years old I think it will be able to go on this rego.i would think the clubs would have to have pictures of the cars each year under this.

Maybe with your club Craig but ours is great with the system as it is

Will the rego go up because you can use it more  :dontknow:

Will the insurance go up because you are using it more   :dontknow:

AND as said, will your 45/90 day permit take out 1 day for a maintenance run  :dontknow:

Our club hires the TAFE auto rooms every Wednesday night so does that come out of that permit  :dontknow:

I now pay about $50 for "H" rego and for 35K insurance with NRMA, only $214

Horses for courses but not this old nag

Barry

My understanding of it that you get your car out for a day regardless of a maintenance run or club run/organised event will be classed as one days use.

Also heard it will be around the $300 mark per year.

And from what I've been able to find online it's only the driving allowance that's changed, the historic requirements are unchanged, ie. only vehicles 30 years or over in standard condition (with the exception of safety-related modifications only).

I can't find any mention whatsoever of an "M Plate" scheme for modified vehicles, so it looks like NSW have taken a good idea and screwed it up yet again.

Bigfella237 incorrect, It states you can register modified vehicles so long as it passes the roadworthy pink slip. if your car is modified it may need an engineers report and so long as it still complies you have no problems registering it on the new system.

I also read that the car must have been on full rego for at least 12 months before being eligible for the new M plate system. My SLR couldn't go onto H plated before because it has an injected engine in it, but it is currently on full rego. With both cars on the new system I will have 120 days of driving available to me anytime of the day or night.

Hi Guys.

Just to clarify a few things here. I probably know a bit more about this than has been publicised.

Firstly, the new system is a 2 year 'trial' for cars over 30 years of age & also includes modified cars that are eligible. This means engineered etc. if required, depending on the type of mods.

Secondly, it does not 'replace' the existing H-plate scheme for non-modified historics, it will exist alongside.

Also, where the current H-plate scheme is quite cheap (around $50-60 including CTTP insurance), the log book system will cost more to administer & the green slip insurance risk will be higher, therefore it will be more expensive, but certainly not as high as full rego & insurance.

IMHO, the new system will be good for those will modified cars & those who find the existing H-plate system too restrictive.

Dr Terry

I think it will be the happy medium between the H plate system and full rego.
Suits me down to a Tee. Freedom to drive when I want. 60 days would be plenty as I will be lucky to drive mine every weekend.

In Victoria you need to be in a club.car has to be 25 years old (as far as I know), the first year on club plates you need 6 piccies, front, rear, left, right, dash, and engine bay, after that only one showing rego plate and the front of the car, just redone mine $142 for 90 days

When I done mine in Victoria 2 years ago I didn't have to have any pics? And just renewed mine also with no pics?

Spoke to a rep of a very well known enthusiasts insurance company today at MCM @ SMP....asked him if he thought the H plate car's insurance policy premium would rise if one was to elect to be part of this new scheme?.....he said modelling it on their experience in Vic with the M plate scheme... it may rise a little, but not much at all.( 10%?)

It was just a casual chat so he wasnt making a statement on behalf of the company...just sayin

If this trial runs along side the current H plate system, will cars participating be issued special number plates to differentiate between the two? Or would you keep your existing plates & the conditional rego be a code on rego certificate etc? With NPR meaning the cops can check your rego status, what would it really matter what the plates read? If I can keep the original 1974 issue plates on my unrestored & unmodified granny pack LH I'll sign up for it, if not I'll stick to paying full rego & enjoy the benefits of being able to drive where & when I want even if it's only once or twice a year. Another reason why I never signed up for H plates before despite the savings in rego costs.
