Hi All

My son is travelling around Europe at present & was at a workshop where a VK shell was sitting.

The plate has the following:

Model: VK19 racing Body

Body No: 92934862

Trim: Blue

Pain:t Alpine White

LV2 Trans      M39 Axle

If any one has clues as to what it may be ie spare shell from group A days, team who owned it etc appreciated.

All I can add is the body number is a part number, LV2 is the standard VK 304ci engine. M39 must be the T5 5spd. This must be a similar thing to a GMP&A LX or VB/VC racing vehicle but no rear axle? Probably raced as a VK Group A. Must be a Walkinshaw car or maybe something left behind by HDT?

Compared to mine that was built with VL sheetmetal. At first I thought mine would have been the 19th VK built but VK19 only means it is a base model shell and could be anything from VB to VL. I have since found that mine was built in 1987 so I am a bit surprised at how high the "BODY No." is with the one in Europe.
No mention of GMP&A on my car. But you can just see another painted plate above this body plate that says VK19 NASCO SHELL.

It has to be a late VK or a VL with the LV2 5.0 V8 engine.

VK means Commodore base model (SL) & 19 is a 6-window sedan, so VK can only be or a VK or VL sedan. A VB/VC/VH is 4-window sedan & would have the body prefix VK69 & the 5.0 litre V8 in those models is an L31.

The body no. is not 'high' because as HK1837 has said, it is the part number.

Why would they have different part numbers? If the difference was VK and VL then the VL would have a higher number wouldn't it? (I'm not arguing. I've still a lot to learn :))

They superceded a lot of part numbers in that era, but also notice that one is painted and trimmed body whilst the other is an unpainted shell hence a different allocation of part number.

Is there a GMP&A or NASCO parts book Yel?? I think the closest I have seen would be the HO supplement for the L34.

This mystery does need to be solved though. Maybe post up the question on Ten Tenths. Someone on there should know.

Some people believe Grice left one over there. It was probably this one raced by Gerry Marshal(?)

and then sold to someone in Scandinavia for rally cross.

I just looked in the 8/78 to 12/87 parts history consolidated listing manual PA1013B dated 2/88 and neither 92023410 or 92934862 are listed. The closest is 92023406 (superceded by 92031723) which is an engine hood insulator.

A VL sedan body shell in Prime less doors and deck lid is 92027635 from the 8/86 VL parts catalogue and is NLA in the 12/87 parts history.

A VK sedan body shell in the same configuration is 92022586 from the 6/85 VB-VK parts catalogue and is NLA in the 12/87 parts history.

Check out this car for the secont time in the flesh today.

Blue dash - VL, walkinshaw scoop, boot tail and window garnish etc.

HDT steering wheel.

Dual fuel filler on the rear garnish panel.

Gold Honeycomb mesh wheels.

AVL050661 stamped into passenger strut top (look like holden pressed stamps)

any thoughts?

I thought Jeroen Hins car was always a VL. Built by Walkinshaw (maybe).

I had originally thought it was this car, but upgraded with later TWR aero..

However..

This chassis has outboard air jacks right on the front guards, centrelock wheels, injected TWR/HDT era, magnesium uprights front, harrop diff with for 9"housing and what looks to be adjustable camber rear floaters.

Comparing it to bathurst winner group A HDT, the dash is nearly identicle, the wheel is not momo but looks to be smaller like an SAAS and the roll cage has single front door bar compared to HDT bathurst winner of 2.

Brocks VL was left there after he split with Holden. It then became the Moffat Rothmans car. But I think that one is already back in Australia. Is it for sale?

Almost identical, except the rear cross tube along the back seat floor. This car has a solid rhs instead of perforated.

Maybe another Roadways built one then. I doubt that Bailey would have had his own to drive while over there. I'll do a bit more research when I get a bit of time.

What's it worth? Jagparts hdt built VK is for sale around the 100k mark iirc, it's got it's CofD and is ready to go. How much has been chopped up on this thing and how much of a resto does it need? How many parts are missing? Then work out what it will cost to rebuild. There is a great thread on tentenths about European commodores, but I think you might have already found it. If this thing can be bought for a good price you would be silly not to!
