I am not sure how many of you may have seen it (in the latest edition of AMCM) but the numbers are finally out regarding the LX SS 5000 variant.

After much research and number crunching, we can now reveal the correct* build numbers of the following LX Torana variants.

Many thanks to Ben Stewart from Holden Historical Services for his time and patience to collate these figures.

Model                  Eng              Qty Built         Notes

Model 8VD77       5.0                   521            SS with 5.0lt Option

Model 8VD77       5.0                   100            SS with A9X Option

Notes
*Build Qtys for all LXs are taken from the GM-H Vehicle Master Listing dated 31/01/1978. These figures represent the minimum build number due to non-listing of some units.

It is hoped that in the future the list will be expanded on with regards to data on Transmission types and Factory A/C cars built.

It is also hope that figures will be attained for the 4.2 and 3.3lt  versions of the SS as well as the LX SL/R models.

regards

Mick

There you go Mick, we all knew there was a lot more than stated in various places. I can't find the thread where we made guesses, would like to see how close we all were!

631 plus those not listed is still a fair few. That is significantly more than both 5.0L HJ GTS coupe (393), HX LE coupe (580 plus those destroyed in WA fire), HQ GTS350 coupe (402), HG GTS350 (450 estimate).

Holden Historical Services

have amazing info on Holden's,  521 SS with 308 is still a small amount of cars, with over 500 made, the SS could of been C.A.M.S approved to race under Group C Rules :P  :driving:

621 Al would be the number of 5.0L SS, the last 100 (A9X spec) would count just different spec like the last 150 XU1.

Mick McMardle, has there been anymore research updates with the SS variants?

For example; numbers for model years '76 to '78, how many 6 cly, 4.2L, manual to auto ratio, colour breakdown numbers etc.

Cheers.

Don't remember seeing this back in '15 - regarding the LE's, what is the story with the WA fire Yel?

Only thought there was 580 ever built

Ahh i remember now -- due to a disagreement about fgucking tags or something stupid like that

Some people just don't know when to stop and call it a day

Huge loss and a gentleman to boot

Some dickheads that have been on here have a lot to answer for -- lot of good knowledgable people MIA now due to dickwits that would be better off feeding the  facebook monster

Has changed the vibe of the forum
