Can anyone confirm if the LX SLR5000 came out with the passenger side rear view mirror ? So many torana's have them but then I have also seen a few photos that do not have them. Also I presume the LH had the chrome mirrors and the LX had the sports version ?

Are you sure?

I recall it wasn't compulsory for passenger side mirrors till 1981 (?).

My SL/R didn't have one but it's not a 5000.

Of course that wouldn't stop manufacturers putting them on earlier if they wanted to.

Yes, even the L34 had a chrome mirror. The pic above shows one without passenger side mirror.

My '76 ss Came with both Mirrors. I recall LX5008 saying that his standard '77 SS hatch did not come with a passenger mirror & that he later installed one & had to cut the mould to fit the mirror...

I'm under the impression that LX SL/R & SS were all supposed to have dual mirrors but some missed out as per the wizard brochure

The 2nd brochure doesn't mention a passenger mirror, not even in the options but the picture clearly shows one. Seeing that some had them, some didn't; could it have been an option?

The first picture of an SLR5000 above without the mirror was the mule (prototype) and hence didn't have the PS mirror.  As said above, all LX SS's and SLR's had both mirrors.

Here's the same pic of that LX SL/R 5000 in the sales brochure before they touched it up to add the left hand mirror.

Maybe SL/R 5000's did but I can tell you 100% my LX SL/R L32 dated 9/76 didn't.

I added it later and remember drilling the holes through virgin steel.

LX SLR & SLR 5000 promotional film. No passenger side mirrors fitted to the featured cars.

The SS Hatchback in this TV ad doesn't have a passenger side mirror either.

Thanks for that, it's one I haven't seen and I finally get to see an ad for an SL/R, I notice no demister switch in the dash.

lol at the mirror drooping on the 5000 at 2.51

Bumpers that can take more bumping? lol

As for the mirror; I also recall having to cut a section out of the chrome window surround; something I would not have done if it previously had a mirror; I also had to get a short chrome connector piece; luckily a friend gave me one.

Yes all SS hatches had left mirrors and so did 5000's. those brochures would have been printed well before the 2/76 release date of the ĹX, cheers Aaron.

Found what I was looking for.

GMP&A News from May 1976.

Full list of LX Torana accessories.

The left hand door rear vision mirror for SL/R and 77 models is listed as an accessory.

Does that also include SL/R 5000?

Correction, the abovementioned mirror listing is for SL/R but excl 5000. The reference to the 77 model was on the line below.

Looking again at the accessories list (this time with my glasses on) the only lh side mirror listed as an option for 5000 and SS models is the remote control mirror.

How rare would they be? I don't recall ever seeing one; electric? Where was the switch/lever?

I din't think they were electric, I thought they had a small lever on the inside door trim.

Allowed you to adjust the mirror without having to wind down the window.

The remote mirrors are cable operated, super rare. More common on HX/Z GTS

Statesman ran a few of those cable operated mirrors to mate, (around start of hz) by memory. Gary.
