Hey guys. Picked up my new project yesterday. Drove 20hrs round trip to pick her up, what a mission, but well worth it as it was a dry country car with no rust!

Its an original LX V8 car, 308 L34 spec (apparently original L34 heads, how can i tell?). All matching numbers & chassis number, 4 speed & drop tank. Has only been resprayed once in its life in the original colour, and few minor repairs here and there.

Its getting a full resto!

What i need help with is:

Im buying 15x10 & 15x7? convo pro wheels. Will i run into to many issues with the 3 1/2 backspace ones? I have flares & guards are cut. I want to lower the car as much as possible. Also what backspace is needed for the fronts?

Also the old owner says that its fitted with a genuine bathurst twin stick shifter & fibreglass flares, how can i tell if genuine? I only knew about a speco twin stick shifter

5" back spacing on the 10's on my hatch standard diff width.
Not 100% sure on the 4 doors but I would say the 3 3/8 ones would be wrong unless the diff is shorter then standard? I could be wrong

Just measure the ones you have to see

15 x 10 with 5 inch backspace and 15 x 8 qith 4.5 inch backspace usually works with standard diif and front end.

So are you confirming there was never a factory twin stick shifter?? I always knew that speco made a twin stick as i had previously mentioned. I have owned lots more LC/LJ's that i have LH/LX's, so im not up to date with the little ins & out's

Thanks mate. I was hoping to get as much dish as possible with the 3 3/8 backspace rims. Is anyone on the forum running these with standard diff length? I will bolt on A9X wider flares and cut the wheel arches right out if thats whats needed??

Yeah i had never heard of a bathurst twin stick either but i dont know enough about the bathurst race cars. Anyways, it is handy not getting jammed between reverse & 1st gears lol, i have a normal shifter in the shed if i want to swap it out.

How can i tell if the heads are genuine L34, castings to look for?

Im going to start sanding her back tomorrow, ran a magnet over all the usual rust spots and nothing so far, only 1 little speck or rust & 1 spot with surface rust the size of a 5 cent piece

Sellers will tell you all sorts of things you want to hear to seal a deal

Definitely an aftermarket shifter

As for L34 heads... usually another story.... find the casting #'s for us

My car is manderin red now, but when the time eventually comes for paint, it will be sting red. (Already did the engine bay when I did the engine swap).  It's not an SLR, SS or anything flash...just a run of the mill original V8/4 speed hatch.

Had one of those shifters in me SLR.As stated no more jamming between reverse and first. If she's the same lift up to engage reverse didn't mind it but mine had a rectangle ally handle to lift with reverse embossed on top.M20-1 aftermarket jobbie. Just a thought arnt 15s tyres sizes getting had to find as in width to fill flared guards . looks like a straight rig bit of elbow grease will have looking great.

Hey SS Hatch. I just push forward on the 2nd stick to engage reverse, and simply pull back to put back into neutral.

Yeah 15's apparently were getting hard to find but there are many companies making them again now. 1 call to your local tyre store and you should easily enough find some 265's etc, even many sellers on ebay with 225, 235, 245, 265 and 295's.

Its getting a full resto but having trouble choosing what colour to paint it. Mint Julep, Barbados, Sting, maybe a nice late model Blue metallic.....
