Hi guys I'm heading down to the island in a few weeks. Just wondering what diff ratios the group nc guys are using ? I'm going to be using a 3:08 ratio, however I do run 15" wheels and a banjo diff and think that will be enough. Still using a 4 speed gearbox may take a 2:78 but I'm hoping not to change it when I get down there. I normally only rev the car to 6800rpm so just looking to find out what others have run down there. Thanks for any help.

Sorry I can't help.
Is there a historic meet down there?
Anything worth the 2 hour journey to see?

3.36 would be my choice.

What Rodo said.

I think you'd find pulling out of the 2 hairpins, in particular MG (turn 10) which is uphill would be hard work with anything higher unless you use 1st gear.

I had 3.5s in my old VH track car.

It pulled out of that corner very nicely and would howl down the straight a 7K..... aah memories.

I was heading down to Phillip island classic in April next but the VHRC or what ever due to numbers in the field are giving NC a break. each year because of the fields they have to give one group a rest and this next year it's NC.

I sort of need a new engine and were about 80% there but no rods available so this has thrown a few thing. tell your old man to ring me if he gets onto some rods.- so no go this year and i don't have a spare.

MD is building the engine in brooky

Yes we are in the same boat at the moment. We will be swinging past the supplier when we go down to Melbourne I can ask directly for you too. Maybe next year is the eta we have been told, luckily we are not in a massive rush to get the motor. Hoping to have it set up and running by March ?? I'm hoping to do a round of the QLD IPRA when they go to Lakeside and then maybe a NSW race then back down for the IPRA nationals which will be down at the island again. Need more power !!!!!!

I rang Joe Zullo of J zed yesterday for a different set and I'll keep you posted he has said that he will have a look at what he has.

same rod as crank shaft but off a different car " make" and then modified to suit. - these were the original THEN crankshaft got these made to these specs so no modification was needed and fit straight in without narrowing the thickness of the rod and using another bearing.

Grant, I'll just correct a thing about the Phillip Island classic next year.

What has happened is that there are now so many categories of Historic wanting to race at the PI Historic that the VHRR decided to drop a category every year on a rotation basis. A couple of years ago it was the Group N under 3000cc, before that it was group S and before that other categories. It just so happens that next year is Group N over 3000cc turn to have a bye.

Of course, if the entries for Group under 3000cc don't come to near grid capacity the organisers will probably do a ring around and top the grid up with other Group N cars.over 3000cc.

This was done a couple of years ago when the over 3000cc grid was not filled it was topped up with some of the faster under 3000cc cars.

Does that all make sense. Its not being done to pee anybody off just a fair way of spreading the load and trying to keep everyone happy.

It is an amazing meeting with regularly over 400 entries in all categories plus regularity and Historic demonstrations.

Grant

If you are after some rods give Gordon Cox from Coxys Motor Sport Spares a call on 0418506650. He's here in Melbourne and can probably be of some assistance.

He is the President of the HTCAV, a top guy and knows his stuff. Tell him I said to call.

cheers

thanks peter - good info.

I sort of had my heart set on that meeting, thundering down that straight with the ocean at the end is pretty magical. Raced there on bikes.

Love the run through   to the hay shed and over the back.then a  long run onto the straight.

I can see it now !

I'll keep listening - I'm with HSRCA and Historic touring cars as a member so I'll keep my ear out, but give me a shout if you hear of something.

I think that I may be onto a set of rod's .

G

Grant, Now heres a plan

Come down to Melbourne for Sandown Historic which is in the first week in Novemmber and leave the car here. I'm sure that we could arrange a place to store you car till you come back down for Island Magic which is usually about 3 weeks later. Kill two nothces on the bucket list in 1 month.

No I dont have any pull in the HTCAV but I feel sure I could arrange something.

I've been a member and competitor since 1985 so have seen it all and then some more.

Hows that for a plan

Island Magic is done, what a great event !! Loved every second of the action, the 3:08 ratio worked perfectly. Mind you it did hit the limiter once when I got a tow down the straight. I ended up with a fastest time of 1:46:7 which I was happy with, now what is needed is more power!
I will put some videos up in a few days after I've finished editing them, thanks for the replies luckily I didn't have to change ratios once I was there.

Very impressive... unless I am mistaken this is a tad quicker than the Group NC record set by Paul Stubber in a chev camoro at 1.46.8

You were a very busy boy Chris.

Certainly action packed.

A couple of those other drivers were a bit sketchy.

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
