Looking to buy some brand new retractable seat belts for the rear of my LX (sedan).

I currently have fixed belts that are located up on the C-pillars. Have seen this thread from ehdave which talks about parcel shelf mounted retractables:

But I was wondering if there's such a thing as a retractable belt that still uses the higher C-pillar location?

Happy to do the parcel shelf method if that's what I have to do, but just looking to eliminate all other options first.

I have only seen parcel shelf retracting ones. I think you'd be struggling to make anything pivoting in the C-pillars 'neat' as there'd be such a short distance between the hanger and the retracting mechanism in the parcel shelf.

You could probably do it the same way you install into an LJ coupe.
Make sure there is space to mount as per pics.

It's easy to make a new mount. The requirements as per VicRoads are not onerous. Beats using the orig mounting point which gets in the way of your feet and requires a special angle mount feel to work.

I reckon you could use some early commodore rear belts. They mount under the parcel shelf on about a 45 degree angle, come up through the parcel shelf to the c pillar. You would have to get the angle right where they mount in the boot, or they won't work.

Excellent info, thanks guys.

What model Commodore are we talking? I might go the wreckers and have a browse around a few cars for ideas.

I don't think you would put a retractor mech on the 'C' pillar because the passengers would smack their heads on it every time you went around a corner.

You can buy the one that bolts onto the rear parcel shelf. I have used them before with success. If you don't have the provision there for the bolt it is an easy install ( as mentioned above ).

I looked into using the 'C' pillar bolt as a 'keeper' point & mounting the Commodore retractor in the boot, with the belt running thru the parcel shelf. Problem was ....... the shelf had to be cut for the belt to go thru.

I'm sure on of the guys will chime in with much more info. :)
