Got shell mounted to rotisserie over weekend so I can start on bodywork, rust repairs. Had to add supports to nose cone. boot latch to stop mounting plates bowing inwards and touching panels. Some of the repairs have already been done by previous owner so I need to finish off rhs sill inner and outer, rhs radiator support, lower area of lhs boot inner and outer, rear shock mounts, lhs door and clean up floor repairs. I will also need to strip back underside of shell which for some reason has been bogged up???. Will keep progress updates coming

Finally unpicked the guards, nose cone and Radiator support. What a prick of a job! The biggest problem was that previous (dodgy) repairs had about 5mm of bog everywhere which I had to remove to find repair welds, some one which were brazed on and impossible to drill out. Was such a pleasure to drill factory spot welds out!. Might need to remove drivers side bonnet hinge bracket to repair a bit of rust on inner guard, top of floor well. I thinks that me and Mr MIG will be spending a lot of time together in the next few months, wish me luck guys!

Forgot to say, grey nose cone/radiator support is old (butchered one) Black ones are donor ones I picked up pretty cheap. Going to shout myself a rares lower valance for fathers day. The rust I am finding is really not as bad as I thought so was pleasantly surprised. Cheers paul.

Sure have gene, you know what they say: "Bit off more than you can chew, then chew like crazy". Lots of hours in the garage for me, luckily the days will be getting longer and warmer soon.

Bit of a long overdue update, have been busy with work, missus's 50th that seemed to drag on for about a month, and complaints from neighbours, so have had to do most of the noisy work during weekdays when I/m on arvo shift. Repaired previous owners shock tower "cutouts", replace panel between boot and rear seat, and filled towbar and other assorted holes in boot floor. Will tackle rear valance and lhs rear 1/4 tmrw, cheers paul. More pics to follow as can only upload about 4-5 at a time.

Thanks Gene, appreciate the encouragement. Actually had a council by-laws officer knock on front door and when I showed him what I was up to, tools I was using and he told me I wasn't actually breaching any noise regulations. (He was a real car nut and was most impressed with project) I now shut roller door which cuts out most of the grinding/hammering, its just that I don't want to cause dramas as we are last people to build in estate. suffice to say don't really give them the time of day, as some are real pains in the *#@! complain about parking on nature strip ect. Must admit when I had car running, straight through exhaust was pretty loud! Chuckle!

Looking good there Paul - making great progress!
Shame about the whining neighbours, especially if you're being conscious of your working hours. Just wave politely @ them as they go by - it will annoy the $hit out of them...
Luckily mine didn't complain, although two did move out of the court during the build???
Keep up the good work.

Thanks jeff, as they say in the classics "Smile N Wave". Tried the weld through primer today with mixed results, scratching paint away as you suggested kind of worked. Will dick around again in the next few days, thanks again for helping me out. You should take the torrie to wandin car show tmrw evening, damo and I are taking the wagon. Cheers paul

No worries, anytime.
Yeah, I thought about going to Wandin but didn't get home until late - maybe next month.

Bit more progress slowly but surely. Lip for fuel tank had a bit dent that couldn't be panel beated as was right on inner edge and strong as, so quickly cut section out so could work on it in a vice, much better now. Made up some patch panels to fill gaps were rust was cut out on p/s lower rear 1/4 panels. Boot is basically finished and only took 3 months! next step is to fix inner lip of rear p/s guard were I had to unpick and rust convert. made a bit or a mess when putting back together. slowly getting there. apologies for photos out of sequence and some are on the side.

Jeff, have had to put the project on hold over winter as the missus asked for a pergola project to be added to the back of the house and you know how the saying goes "Happy wife, Happy life". Nearly finished building it, just need to "Knock up" a pizza oven, then will start back on the Torana again. At least the weather will be better as you know how cold it gets in the shed in Melbourne. Thanks for asking and do you still have the stand on wheels or has it long gone. How is the Green Machine going, any updates? Cheers Paul

Hey Paul,
Nice work on the pergola Indeed, happy wife makes for a happy life - hence I haven't done much on the car. Been catching up her 10yr old list of things to do...
Currently getting organised to do a bit of electrical work to fit an electric fuel pump and tidy up thermo fan wiring, etc. Also investigation spring options to raise the car a little - a bit over the rough ride!
Yes, still have the trolley hanging from the garage roof waiting for you.
Cheers,
Jeff

Happy New Year to all forum members, hope santa brought lost of car/torana stuff. Finally got all the projects finished around the house including outdoor entertaining area (see previous post), pizza oven, gardens and retaining walls and last but not least a practice putting green/bunker. I snagged a new tool box for Christmas and decided to make a foam insert for spanners so they don't get mixed up: cost $15 from clark rubber and required a lot of patience and a sharp scalpel. Cant wait to start back on torana again and will keep progress updates coming; Paul

Finally get to update post after long overdue restart on the project. First job is to strip bog and patch panels on floor pan that has trapped rust/moisture over the years. Chassis rails were pretty badly dented so previous owner had just bogged entire floor pan to "smooth" over any imperfections. Bog is about 10-15mm in some places but coming off fairly easy. Plan is to etch prime then body deaden floor pan after repairs have been done. Cheers paul

Ive got bog over a 1cm thick in the top of my beaver panel thats been cut out. my front drivers guard had half a centermeter in the top of it doors full of it :(
