Had front and rear screens fitted over cup weekend, rear screen is actually tinted but you cant really tell in the photo. Polished and painted brackets of bumpers, front came up good but I will need to buy a new rear one down the track, when the money tree I planted last year starts bearing fruit ($$$$$$) :spoton:.

Fitted the bonnet today and discovered the bonnet sits way too high and I can't drop the hinges any lower as they sit on lip in the engine bay. Checked the old hinges and discovered a "notch" had been cut out to allow the bonnet to drop lower. (Bonnet had been trial fitted with old hinges, before I splashed out on some new ones) Just wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem and any tips/tricks to get around it before I take to the new hinges with an angle grinder/welder, thanks paul.

Shit!

I've just bought new hinges because the old ones had too much slack in them and didn't want to line my guards up to them.  I haven't tried fitting them yet but hope I don't have that much gap.  That's a long way out and hope there's not a miss aligned hinge mount involved.

Keen to watch the results of this Paul.

Also looks like the spring is not fully lifting the bonnet???

Marty

Hey Marty, I'm not going to panic yet! if worst comes to worst I may have to use old hinges as that is how I lined guards, nose cone ect up before welding into place. I brought the new ones just recently as old ones had a lot of play in them, multiples holes drilled, (didn't even take much notice of "notches cut out") Another option is to start dropping hints to Santa for a pair of new buet, billeted, air dampened Aeroflow hinges ($800) as they have a section cut out of lower corner already. Depends on how good I have been this year. While I've got you, I started a thread on glovebox lock removal, if you get a chance can you have a squiz and see what you think. Ill keep you posted with bonnet issue (my advice is to line everything up with new hinges before getting the MIG out!) Cheers Paul.

Picked up seats from trimmer today and really happy how they came up, even just propped up against garage wall without headrests, runners, hardware ect fitted, (bit different to last time I saw them in back of the ute!) Also painted, pin striped and applied decals to dash/speedo housings. (Photo was before I "fried" decals with incorrect clear-coat) thanks Marty for coming to the rescue, you're a champ!

Hi Paul,

Seats and dash's look great well done.  The new decals are on their way, posted yesterday.

In the future the silver/chrome pen should go on last so the flat clear coat doesn't dull the silver.

Marty

Thanks Clay, only missing piece of the puzzle now is tacho which is being repaired by speedo tech and should be back next week. No excuses now, need to pull the finger out and get show on the road!

Well picked up Gary, That's the way they came from rares, and I didn't even check or take notice. The passenger side was installed the correct way. I'll flip it over when dicking around with old hinges and it is off the car. I presume it won't make any difference to how bonnet sits?

My first attempt at chrome trim restoration. Practiced on a headlight bezel first and followed other members steps by gently tapping out dents, sanding back with different grades, then hit with buffing wheel attached to bench grinder. Came out pretty good so will do tail light surrounds next, paul.

Fitted boot the other day (put vinyl inserts between ridges as paint had come away from edges), painted metal trims on gauges, made a new boot lock retainer gasket out of old bike tube (leather punch set great for getting nice circles in vinyl, plastic ect). As car is LC and have fitted an LJ glovebox, made up a retaining latch for inside glovebox as neither would work for LJ glovebox. Next hope to fit headlights, front grill ect, Happy New Year, Paul.

The striker at the top in your pic is the correct item for the LJ Torana glove box lock.

Just need to drill new screw holes in the dash panel  to suit.

FRont bumper, grill headlights, indicators fitted. Must have done front pass side of prep work at beer o'clock on a Friday arvo. Once car is on road will go around and touch up chips, fill gaps and recondition grill as will need to come of anyways!

Looks great Paul, Always cool watching a rebuild in progress, I like the Glacier white colour, What colour black did you do your outside trim blackouts in, the pics look like gloss ?

What insulation have you used on the floor ?

Cheers Trev
