G'day Trev, spot on, blackouts are gloss! Tried a section with satin but gloss just seemed to look so much better. Insulation was generic brand I picked up from company that made carpet sets up, cost around $200 to do car and super easy to fit.  I believe Tru-Fit Carpets in Dandenong (Melbourne) also sell similar product at a reasonable price. Thanks for the encouragement, really appreciate it, paul.

Started on the wiring the other day, gauges have all been tested and repaired by instrument tech. Had to mate GTR wiring to standard wiring loom, and make up a rear wiring harness with new plug to rear tail/stop/number plate lights as wiring loom had been butchered by previous owner. The heat shrink, solder joiners are a great idea.

Hey Trev, slowly getting there. Most of the wiring has been installed/sorted. Had to make a patent pending handbrake switch using one I picked up from Jaycar ($5.00) Only problem was had to weld an infill to handbrake lever for it to activate. Works a treat though! Cheers Paul

Hey Paul

That handbrake bracket turned out nice mate, ashame that handy work will be covered up by the vynal cover. Ive just installed my carpet that i purchased back in about 95, It was out of shape, but with a bit of heat from a heat gun, seemed to lay ok. What else have you been doing Paul, ? Have you fitted new door seals, Im having trouble getting the doors to close fully, Have adjusted the striker plates outward a little, doors aernt flush, but im hoping the rubbers will soften and over time i will move the striker plate inwards.

Hey Trev, things going a bit slow atm, as due to lockdown/social distancing I have been attending to long overdue projects around the house like painting, fixing leaking roofs, a bit of drainage. Got braided fuel and radiator lines for engine bay (jeez, talk about $$$$, but want to make the engine bay a real feature of build) In relation to door seals, try a bit of Rares "Rubber magic" my windscreen fitter used it when fitting my windscreens and swears by it, cant say how it works on door seals though, as havn't got that far yet. Hopefully someone on the forum can steer you right!  Good luck, Paul

Time for an update I think. Got beast running today, and also installed tailshaft, speedo. as well as topped up all fluids. Radiator sprung a leak after I put fan blade through when installing brake distribution block mounting bracket under chassis rail (long story). Engine still idles really high even though idles screws are backed right off, runs pretty good though. I think from memory butterflies weren't closing properly so might start there. Will attach clip of engine running shortly. Next step is get brakes up and running and fit exhaust (makeshift exhaust at the mo) Cheers Paul.

Thanks ricky, still need to tidy up wiring on dizzy side of engine, but wanted to get running first. Wasn't sure about a white engine bay at first, but am glad I did now! also tried to attach video of engine running but file was too large. I'm sure everyone has seen and heard a holden six with webers before.

That's nice mate. If there's anything better looking or sounding than a 12A bridgey with a 48IDA it's a red six with 3 side drafts.

That is a noise that just grates on my eardrums.

4 years of camping in the pits at Bathurst and that was the noise that woke me every morning. Early.

Still makes me shudder thinking about it.

Lol.

Cheers

Rob

Thanks Zoot, Marty and Rob. I hear your pain Rob, that sound is now replaced by the sound of rattle runs when you camp overnight at a motorsport event. Imagine in 10 years when V8's have declined to "E" series championship and Toyota Hybrids are zinging around Bathurst. The only sound you will hear at 0700 is the sound of green cans being opened and bacon and eggs sizzling on the BBQ. Then you will be saying "Ah I miss the good old days of a Holden 6 with triples!!"

In regards to the idle still being too high with the throttle stop screws backed off, I notice that you don't have any external return spring on your linkages. The Dcoe's have their own return springs but once set up with linkages they can be insufficient. I make stainless steel return spring brackets that attach to the top of the carbs, let me know if you're interested in some/one. Also ensure that there's no vacuum leaks causing a high idle. Your carbs look quite clean, did you get them rebuilt? Did that include new leather spindle seals as used on those early Italian Webers? Are they 45dcoe13's?

Another possible reason that dcoe's can have a high idle can be if the pump rod spring is the heavy duty version and that can hold the throttles open slightly. I've also seen the long version of the pump rods being too long and when the carb lid goes on it pushes down the pump rod which in turn opens the throttle plates slightly again.

Do you know your jetting and choke specs? When you need to eliminate the mid range flat spot at about 2500 rpms I'll help you out there too if needed.

G'dy james, thanks for that info, appreciate it. My brother picked up carbies from a swap meet as we were going to put on the HR wagon we have, then torana project started so decided to use for my car instead. He pulled them apart , water jet cleaned them then re-assembled with new gaskets ect. He may have  done something wrong when re-assembling, but this is first chance I have had to run them with motor. We disconnected accelerator cable when running saturday and checked all adjustable linkages to make sure carbies had closed as far as possible, hence no return springs. I will have another look during the week and get back to you about jets ect, thanks again paul.

Thanks Gene and Matt, not sure how fresh it will look in 12 months time, I know why most old fords and holdens have black engine bays: to hide all the oil leaks and road grime! When I filled up the engine with water before firing the old girl up last weekend I noticed water pouring out the front of the block. After close inspection I noticed a hole under thermostat housing I had overlooked. As I am doing away with the heater, normal thermo housing would have covered this. Had to re-fit old one to get engine running, then during the week, tapped a thread in exposed hole to use a grub screw to plug hole. Will need to wait until get carbies back from Weber specialist to fire up again and see if still leaks, Paul
