Hi all, having a PC sort-out & have collected about a dozen pics related to the Mosman Park plant.

Thought I'd post them here as this site got the most hits whenever I googled it.

Theres bugger-all info coming up local, mainly thru National or the SA State archive sites some info

from FB where someone named Paul posted most of these, could be HQ/SS Paul as he was always

looking for GMH WA info. Cant vouch for the info as where I found some of it except that from the Bayswater

Rail Museum & from a "train spotter's" site, these blokes are Uber padantic. Those of us with our smaller/nimble

Torana's & alphabet soup codes/prefix's are overshadowed by these guys.

Anyway less words more pics.

it was located on the corner of Victoria Str & Buckland Ave, opened 1928

Victoria St runs top to bottom.

Bodies came in by rail as CKD's & read somewhere they were trucked from Cottesloe station to the plant as rail

didnt go to GMH's or the "other" mob's plants.

Got an '81 map for the area, I'll scan it.

ahhh too big

Place closed late 1972 & theres now a school on the site.

Dont know about the Cottesloe bit, seems others stations are closer but dont know when they

were established. I do know that before Cott had a station, if you wanted off then in daylight

hours you had to hang a flag out before the stop & a lantern at night. Besides Leighton yards

were around then too.

Last 1 was said to be a HQ SS. Mossy Park council are still pretty chuffed of its history &

a couple of these pics are used in their calender this year & the site is also a stop on their

Heritage Walk trail.

Not there anymore & is the IONA School now, so probly best to go for a look at the weekend

so's ya not scarin' the little 'un's with your loud cars & leary paint jobs, chromies & fat tyres...

It certainly looks like an SS prior to it going to the finishing area for the decals.

Cool pictures.

Those bodies aren't CKD, they are painted and hard trimmed bodies from either Woodville or Elizabeth sent to Mosman park for assembly. Same way most vans were done at Pagewood and Dandenong.

Thanks Jono, great pics and info.

Hard to believe they had an assembly plant in one of the most expensive suburbs in Perth, even back then it was pricey.

Building is still there.

Believe it or not GMH made boats from this plant as well.

Ok, havnt been past myself, only read it was gone.

Hoping to cruise past when my LJ is going later this year.........maybe??

Would've been good seeing the train pass thru the city onto the Freo line, all loaded with new models of the day.

Just for info's sake, the "other" mob's place was turned into The Matilda Bay Brewing Co, located on Stirling Hwy

just past McCabe St on the map. Least then there was something usefull being produced.

I'm pretty sure the brewery is going to be converted to apartments or something now - they've closed it down and moved east.

My uncle grew up literally down the road from McCabe st and owned many old holdens (EH was his favourite), I'll ask him if he has any pics of the area when I see him next.

Yep, true moved to the east.

Dont really need a pic of the "other" plant as they're all built off the 1 plan/blueprint so

identical worldwide....like Tuckey Fried or McDonalds!! hmmm tight fisted or canny?

Apparently the 1st plant built in Aus has a roof capable of supporting a huge weight of snow................

...............coz they get sh!t-loads of it in Dearborne. lol lol.

Everything all gone.....

The EH Holden Club of Western Australia held the 40th Anniversary Celebrations of the EH Holden there

Took my 1963 Perth (Mosman Park) assembled EH Holden to the show, some people shot me down, others loved the car.....

was the ONLY Perth assembled EH there, but is now a 2 Door Convertible! Hence some people angry about "chopping up" such a rare car  :dontknow:

RallyRed,

We had one too, awesome car with the liquid style speedo, we had twin aerials on back, which as a joke I cruised Hunter st Newcastle with fox tails hanging off(a long time ago) was so sad when the old girl got sold. Occasionally took her to Kooragang, got plenty of attention, but never raced her, no use doing a ten minute quarter with the old 138 powerplant, lol

Cheers

Muz
