Hi Grant..thanks for the G up.

First..let me say compared to others who may have had engine issues to overcome,,mine is pretty simple..  Hats off to those who have overcome major issues to be ready for a  Friday trip to the Magic Mountain.

Stuff fiddled with since the entry was lodged ....ages ago  -

Adjust/check roller rockers

Replace gearbo oil

Replace diff oil

Check all brakes ( new Hawk Ht10 pads )

Check every last nut and bolt under the car

Replace fan belt

Replace fule tank with foam cell ( from this forum)

Soft mount fuel pumpto make it less bloody noisey

Add Diff breather bottle

Get spare throttle cable( info from this forum)

Get full Nc suspension upgrade from Greg Nowland ( fitted  by Tom Dalziel) Dodgey's son ( from this forum)

Get new helmet and HANS device

Swap 3.36 to 3.08 diff

Swap Harrop Tru Track to Detroit Locker

Apon advice from organisers that there will be NO tire suppliers at the event ( despite 325 entries over 4 days!!!...can you believe it???  WTF etc etc) - get 4 x new Yoky Advan 048 softs. Mount old Yokys on 4 x spare Hotwires

Wire in low oil pressure idiot light

Wire in 12v supply to Go Pro

Nice work Col, the car looks great! Doing laps of Mt Panorama is always fun.. I noticed you are running Spax shocks, how have you found them? Do you play around much with the compression and rebound settings?

cheers,

Sam

I hope to be joining Col at Mount Panorama on the weekend.

My prep is way behind, as the engine & gearbox were only ready to start installing two weeks ago. I have rebuilt the entire drive-line on my LC. Diff, tail-shaft, gearbox and engine (replacing the 202 with a 186). I have updated the cooling, oil & fuel systems and changed the headers/exhaust. So, pretty much everything.

I need to get some sleep and finish it after work tomorrow. The plan is to have it loaded onto the trailer tomorrow night. Fingers crossed we will make it.

Give Greg Nolan at Suspension Concepts a call (0414 244 790) he will be able to provide you any information. He is the Australian Distributor for Spax.

Note: Just so everyone is aware and I'm upfront; my son Tom works at Suspension Concepts and I have a financial interest in the business

This looks like a blast!
I was really hoping for updates and now worried something might have gone awry what with nothing having been posted.
Fingers crossed that all is good.
Cheers, TB

What is it like to drive around Mount Panorama without a 60kph speed limit?

Faaaark - words cannot describe the thrill!

If you have any interest in motor sport, you need to do this.

I have watched 1000's of laps on TV, I have walked the track more than 20 laps and driven countless laps on the Xbox. But none of this can compare or prepare you for actually driving the circuit. It is the ultimate driving experience and would rank up there with all experiences (yes I am raving and have had a few JB's this evening).

Unfortunately my day did not go particularly well. After 5 laps of the first session the car dropped a large amount of coolant and I had to bring it in. I spent the next couple of hours trying to diagnose the problem and rectify the situation. I missed the second session working on the car. I readied it for the third session but knew in reality it was all over. It only did a lap and a half and expired on Conrod Straight with a blown head gasket. Well that is what my brief assessment determined. It would appear that the sump is holding 7 litres of oil & a couple of litres of coolant. I am hoping it hasn't bent a rod.

I was ready to go home, but the boys talked me into staying and going out for dinner and having a few drinks. I will go back to the track tomorrow and lend a hand. Col is still running and running very well with some personal goals to achieve tomorrow. I'm sure he will provide an update.

I will definitely be coming back. I have plenty of unfinished business at Mount Panorama.

Thanks Stuart. I'm home now and in a better frame of mind. Tomorrow I'll start to sort out what went wrong.

I spent this morning at the track helping RallyRed (Col) and running around trying to get a few photos for him.

Col put in some awesome laps and achieved a very impressive personal best lap time. I will leave it to him to provide an update and share his results. I expect his is still enjoying a few celebratory beers.

Here are a few pictures of RallyRed at Mount Panorama.
