Living the dream evolves days when the dream does not seem logical. But we must try and with the pain also comes a small quiet grin as an acknowledgment of having a go to one self.

Steve - when  i threw the rod out the side I was still stoked. will we see you at the bathurst 6 hour in easter ?

Col give us the run down

Wow....what a weekend. Its not a cheap deal, but they ran a very, very well ran event. If you ever thought you'd like to go around the Mtn. no holds barred, 2017 could be it for you...great bunch of blokes competing too...didnt really see any dic;;eads at all.
Very sorry for Steve who had the issue, but had a few drinks, chewed the fat,...he bounced back, and returned Sunday and worked 2 lots of magic on my car.
Sorted Tire pressures - took 3 secs off next run
Tweaked Shocks - took 2 further seconds off next run.
I think he should come to all our events and just hang around in the garage!!...who nows how fast I could go with his magic hands.lol. Thanks mate.
Seriously, it was a real shame that he couldnt run, but he helped me heaps.( as did his old mate Gerard who punts a little BMW pretty hard).

That track is just a fantastic thing....some bits just never feel right, other bits are so flowing it just feels like you got it right.
I got down to a 2:55, which is way better than I thought I would do first time.
The car is heaps faster than I am, and I reckon theres several more seconds in it, easy.
The shitty video I got makes it look like a cruise down to get the paper on a Sunday morning, ...it feels heaps quiker on the track....and the poor old speedo thinks its around 6pm all day!.
Mornings were best, the car got hot in the arvos, and I didnt run the last session as I didnt want to stuff it up.

See if you can find the 'Grate" at the top of the mountain - bit of a tip.. you have to get real close to the wall...

Pricelss advice!!....thanks.....give the drain grate a tikle and everything to Skyline just hapens....dont go near the drain, and its a hard slog all the way to Skyline. It looks wrong to go way out there...but it really works. Thanks again Racehatch.

Will post a few vids once sorted.

.

Glad to hear the advice helped, I've only done a few laps around there but found out pretty quickly it's important to get your car over there so it's in the right spot for the rest of it..

Sorry to hear about your issues Steve, last time I raced there I busted an axle on the start line and had to pack up early so I feel your pain!

Looking forward to the vids!

Cheers,

Sam

These guys next to us had come over from Perth....sheared the gearbox mounts off in the first session..ouch.

They put in a good effort to redrill, tap, helicoil etc back onto the block, and had it going for session 3, however it then suffered some kind of engine management issue that made it stall on downshifts...pretty scarey he said. Packed it up and settled in for a few cool ones.

He reckons he''ll be back.

This is the cause of my early retirement. I didn't have to look too hard to find it!

I suspect it was just a crack when in the first session the engine pressurized the cooling system and pumped out a large amount of coolant via the overflow bottle.

When I went out again, it only took another lap to completely break away.

The head was from my previous 202, so was old and had done a lot of work. It was pressure tested and crack tested before being put onto the new 186.

Unfortunate that it happened when and where it did. I had done 250 kms the previous Saturday night running the engine in - it would have been better to have happened then.

Another sacrifice to the gods of speed! I feel I have now made sufficient offerings and it is time for them to start showing me some kindness.

The engine is out of the car and will be stripped down and checked for other damage. That is a lot of metal to go missing and there is no sign of it.

We will rebuild and go again.

This VF2 HSV GTS with a Harrop S/C upgrade went like the clappers and handled pretty well too for a big car........he was punting it well....melted the rear valance and had to chop it to stop it dripping onto the pipes!

Not sure how many HSVs get driven like that...

This is about 3.00lap,before Steve (Dodgey). tweaked the tires and shocks,  the 2.55 lap video didnt come out/got recorded over by the fu%$#$ Go Pro (probably my stupid settings).

Best played on full volume, but looks so slow regardless...

The shitty video I got makes it look like a cruise down to get the paper on a Sunday morning, ...it feels heaps quiker on the track....and the poor old speedo thinks its around 6pm all day!.

Col, I reckon your 2:55 lap was a superb effort. Consider:

- road registered lightly modified, period correct LJ Torana, 42 years old

- driven by a club level motorsport enthusiast more than 42 years old!

That is an AVERAGE lap speed of almost 80mph.

To put it into (some) perspective, in 1970, Colin Bond qualified the Holden Dealer Team LC Torana GTR XU-1 with a lap of 2:54. And the track did not have The Chase to slow up the run down Conrod Straight.

That was no cruise. And is that really how you get the paper on Sunday mornings?

Steve

Yep...pretty open track, so not the best test for it....but yes, 100% happy with it. Zero wheelspin.

So much so, that upon advice from Steve (Dodgey), I'll probably put it in the 3.36 , and put the Harrop in the 3.08 ( opposite to the way they are now).....then just switcheroo the whole thing  for open, or tight tracks.

Keith had a buyer lined up for the Harrop, but the above seems like a plan.

Is yours in a 3.36?
