The plastic cover below the coffee pot is not LJ. I believe it is HQ.

The LJ should have the firewall mounting plate spot welded to the lower end of the column.

That steering column was originally a column shift 3 spd manual or automatic.

Shayne, LC is different to LJ so can your original LJ column be repaired/rebuilt?

http://s1077.photobu...html?sort=1&o=0 as you can see from the photo the space cadet who owned the car before me has welded the steering coupling, the steering rack side is welded also. I'm sure Rego won't like it when I put it over the pits

Remove the steering column assy from the car and see if you can very carefully cut and grind through the tack weld with a 1mm cutting disc. Remove the cotter pin first. If you can cut through the tack weld without cutting into the steering shat you may be able to salvage your existing column. Don't worry if you stuff the steering coupling yoke in the process. Prob easier to get replacement coupling yokes than a steering shaft.

You should be able to dress up any excess weld on the steering shaft with a file.

Just noticed the dodgy clutch relay lever brace directly below the steering coupling. Looks like an alternator adjustment strap/bracket thing bolted to the bellhousing.

Cmon your killing me with more things that this car has 😳😄 the bloke with the steering column didn't take the news to well. This is his email.

We know it is out of a torana mate, because the spindle inside that sticks out is smaller in diameter that fits a Hq .
We have got heaps of HQ ones here, and they are different to it.

Dare say I'm not on the Christmas card list 😂

Apologies Shayne.

I found it hard to see the coupling end of the steering shaft in that pic.

As I said I believed the column may be HQ however if the coupling end of the shaft is reduced in diameter and is not splined then it must be LH Torana.

The plastic cover under the coffee pot is 100% not LJ Torana.

Also, they have the column to dash panel mounting bracket installed upside down.

I was talking about my car not ole matey with the dodgy column😄 after looking at the clutch bracket its seems like a longer version of the alternator bracket so you might be right . Time to seek out the right one 👍
