Hi all,

Finally got some paint on the car and looking at buying an engine soon.

Can anyone recommend an engineer to speak to about putting a LS2 in to the LX - prefer one that has done it already?

Also for those that have already done the conversion am I able to get away with buying a engine/gbox or is it better to buy a wreck so I have all the odds and ends?

Looking at using a 6 spd auto (would like to make it a manual shift) and building a street car with the odd trip on the 1/4

Cheers

You could try Yodels at Cape York Automotive. If he cant help, he may be able to put you onto someone that can, probably Townsville way. Who painted your car?

I agree fit engine then paint, may be brackets to make, weld, drill.
I have fitted a couple if LS's into 4wds.
Buying a wreck would be easier as you get the little bits as you said.
The factory engine and trans computers can be unlocked to be stand alone so no immobiliser body control funtions, they are a good unit have alot of features.
If you dont get a wreck, painless wiring do an ls conversion harness with gm computer.
I adapted the commodore harness to fit into a patrol, wasnt hard to wire if you have some basic ideas with electeical and diagrams.
Would think the trans would require mild to wild tunnel mods, they are just too small for most other trans besides aussie and trimatic.
There will be some people in here that can help with sump type and mounts, a few people have done this conversion already.

The biggest complaint I have so far, 13,000kms and I have just trashed my third set of street tyres.

It's becoming expensive :driving:

I had an LS in a patrol, made the car drive like it should, had the power the factory should have made.
The LS motor is designed with a nice flat curve, to make them drivable.

Hi all,

Work out at sea and got stuck out there alot longer than expected so haven't been online. So far all flares and body kit have been fitted. Car has primer on it now. After reading comments I think I might have a chat to my mate and look at fitting the engine first and box first before doing anymore painting. It's actually being built at my mates in Tassie - he builds race cars for fun so he is doing the job for me at mates rates (cause he loves it).

Actually living in Gladstone now and managed to find a local guy that has done it already and his engineer is local too so having a win.

Looking at getting a 9 inch now and some wheels and need to find a decent wreck with a good engine and box before I go much further.

Question - how wide should I make the diff? Want to fit some fat 10" rims in if possible with some fat rubber. Have the large A9x flares on so should help. Anyone able to recommend somewhere to get a 9 inch at a reasonable price (preferable Tassie or Vic)? Seen a few on gumtree but not sure if I should get a 2nd hand one and then have to mod it - might only cost a bit more to get a fresh one.

Also how strong are the 6 spd auto's? Not going to being a drag machine - just the odd trip on the strip but want to get around 400rwhp
