I'm sure it's been covered before but I don't have much success with the search function so sorry.

What brand style are people running?
I had Comp Cams gold series as they were recommended to be one of the best.

Something tells me there are not but maybe it was just bad luck receiving a flawed set?

Thinking of going to shaft mount ones. Anyone using these. What brand are you running?
And what lift cam?

Thanks

My yella terras are still going strong after 16 years and nearly 100,000 km on the 383 Holden. It has big gorilla springs.
Not cheap but certainly have gone the distance.

I would rather have your failure than the one I had on the BBC.

YT 7/16" Shaft Mounts.

I'd be looking for witness marks from binding with that sort of failure.

Yeah Gerry Im leaning towards the shaft mount ones this time.

Didnt find any cause for it to break. No other damage found yet.
Looking at the break there is a small sign on inclusion in the casting. Maybe it would have lived in something a bit tamer but who knows. The other ones are showing signs of stress risers so will be sending the lot back so they can do their own fa on them as im keen to see what they say the fause was.

Dont worry Tim. Geneo doesn't know what hes on about lol

Yeah Rexy. I certainly dodged a big bullet. At least it went at 3000 rpm and not 7

Yeah Mick. All was good when they went in. No binding. Done about a 1000 k's since the overhaul. Looked at the springs for sings of binding but didnt see any. Will have a closer look during the week when I get them stripped

As said, YT platinum, they are the best you can get off the shelf for a holden.
Had mine 12 years, seen nothing but hard miles and constant 7000rpm.
So far, have only replaced a circlip.

Going to order the ST2033A (cant post the link?)

Are they the ones you guys are refering too?

Cam isnt that much Mick. Around .580 lift 112 lobe sep

Going to around .680 lift 108 lobe sep

Cant remember what the pressures were it was that long ago. Pretty sure springs are also Crane

But getting new springs, cam and followers before this happened. Just have to add rockers to the parts list now.

Yup, YT6030 are the ones you need for the EFI HEAD.

Mine is an early head, so has an early YT rocker, YT5020, pre platinum series finish and marketing. They have lots of clearancing for the retainer, but I found the 3/8" push rods touched the arm quite a lot and had to be clearanced. Cam is about .700" lift. Attached pic is of the push rod area that has had additional clearancing done. Push Rods are Crow Chrome Moly one piece .080" wall.

Also, NO ONE should ever ever buy the ST series rockers, let alone consider putting them on an engine! Lots of arm flex even at moderate spring pressures, poor geometry.

Thanks Mick
Got them on their way. I had to clearance my last rockers like that. I will check the new ones and do the same if needed. Not changing the cam now as the costs were getting out of hand and there's nothing wrong with the old one. Got new springs coming (will be 4th set) as the seat pressure had dropped to 170 FFS. Im pretty sure that's why it layed over before the stripe last time I ran it.

What springs are you using?

My old engine had Isky Tool Room Green Stripes in it, never changed them in the 8 odd years it was run, and it used to regularly see 8000RPM, limiter at 8100, never a sign of valve float, collets never stuck in the retainers etc.

New engine has Isky Tool Room Silver stripes in it. They are cheap compared to repairing an engine.
