Im tired of getting raped for rego on a car I rarely drive and am looking for a club that I can join that will offer me historic rego.

Its my HT wagon. Aside from being lowered, its stock.

Without beating around the bush, I'm not real big on compulsory meetings and compulsory club runs. I just want cheaper rego.

If you are a member of such a club let me know how to join and what you need me to do.

Please reply here or via pm.

Thanks, Craig.

Our state calls it Special Interest Vehicle Registration and the car only has to be 30 years old to get it, No join a club set up. Each state having different formats.

Craig,

was thinking that there could be a GMH torana historic club registered in NSW BUT i believe that the club needs to be an existing club in order to be acceptable or ( x years old) in order to be able to accept cars ? under the NSW rego scheme - now that has a good chime to it

" GMH torana historic club " quote unquote !!!

Could be wrong - i have a problem with the track car as our club will not support an application - not sure why maybe it's - roll cage - side exhaust - no carpet - numbers etc

the only problem is, car clubs implode when people get involved and start finger pointing

G

I'm not sure about the NSW situation. But here in Victoria the Historic Touring Car Association is a club that is recognised by Vicroads as a car club for Historic egistration. Maybe the AppJ association of NSW is as well.

Really the registration has nothing to do with the club except for signing the paperwork every 12 months. The club doesnt have to be car specific  so possibly find that in NSW you could be a member of for example, the Fiat 500 club,  with your torana and get historic registration. If there are no specific car clubs for you though I would join one of the larger ones such as the MG car club or BMW car club as they have a track record of being round for a long time

I went through the same issues you are having several years ago until I meet Garry Warnes at the Australian National Street Machine Association.

Go to their web site and give Garry a call, tell him Graham sent you, or pm me and I will introduce you.

Sometimes it's good not to abbreviate.

Sounds like a gay club ;)

If you have a local amateur motor sporting club they may offer club rego.

They will want you to participate somewhat, Once your a member you can get your cams general officials license, then go out to a couple of club race days and volunteer, they will love you, you will have great fun, and you will get cheap rego.

If the club hosts a round of the NSW rally championship, and its anything like the QLD round that my local club hosts, its great fun to volunteer for.

Cheers.

I reckon this whole ""60 day trial"" thingo thats currently attached to Historic Rego here in NSW ,must be a NSW Gov. way to try and figure out if theres a way to milk old car fans, for some kind of restricted/non club-ish rego.

i.e you want to drive your old car for 75 days a year, well....your rego will be 75/365ths of a normal rego?

I just cant believe that Duncan Gay ( no reference to Skaps post above) has offered up this free trial because ""these old cars should be seen out and about""........governments just don't work that way.

Summary - maybe within a year or so, you can just deal with the RMS and not the clubs.?

Mate as stated above by UCA350, contact Garry Warnes at ANSMA.

Very helpful & no meetings & compulsory runs.

Got my Hatch rego with them, you only text him when your taking the car out.

Ian

Any idea when they're going to let heavily modified cars into 60 day trial?

Like engineered cars with minitubs & engine swaps etc like they got in Victoria.

Early in 2016, Stage 2 will see the development of a Modified Classic Vehicle Scheme. This scheme will provide the opportunity for modified classic vehicles which are 30 years of age or older to also be conditionally registered.

The Modified Classic Vehicle Scheme is anticipated to operate in a similar way to the Historic Vehicle Scheme. Things like forming a club, joining a club and applying for conditional registration will be similar. Clubs may also choose to participate in the log book trial for classic vehicles.

Existing recognised historic vehicle clubs may also choose to become a club under the Modified Classic Vehicle Scheme.

Some matters currently being worked through with enthusiasts, industry and government stakeholders include the vehicle standards and CTP insurance classification. Modified vehicles require a different process to determine their suitability for safe use and it is important that clubs have this capability.

From 1 October 2015, if you are interested in either forming or joining a club under the proposed Modified Classic Vehicle Scheme please email [email protected].

For further information about the Historic and Classic Vehicle Log Book Trial, please call the Contact Centre on 13 77 88.

The other states need to follow the Tassie one, Car only has to be 30 years old to get SI plates, no joining of a club to get it, normally Tas is behind in things but not the case in this matter.

So far only heard of one club in area offer club/historic rego for 'modified' holdens as in period mods, not sure if they'll make jump to 60 day trial anytime soon which is what i'd much rather.

Got untill November to find club willing to accept car or renew rego, car too wild to daily or leave anywhere
