Well it's about bloody time!
Obviously there will still be V8's, but now we're going Group A racing again.
I thought it was good when the other manufacturers join such as Mercedes, Nissan, Volvo.... but this will really shake things up.
Now we should really see some creativity in terms of engine configurations in different brands, and maybe it'll attract people like me back to watching it every fortnight instead of saving up for bathurst....
Have we really seen the last of the "Big Bangers"???

Hopefully technology has advanced and will reliably deal with this issue.

High quality racing and terrific standard of cars/drivers.
The sport should be far more popular. The Holden vs Ford thing appears thankfully dead.
The volvos sound 100 times better than the rest at full noise.

Oh well, makes room for another manufacturer then, or they'll come back with a twin turbo diesel 4 cylinder or something.

There will also be a mammoth amount of restrictions to try keep them inline with current v8's.
They are yet to lock in any form of configuration, prob because they are realizing the cost of the R&D is huge for what they want to achieve.
No manufacturere as yet has said they will be def switching from the v8z, although 2 of them have got engines and are exploring the idea.
From what i have read GM is or would be the closest to make this sort of switch.

I remember 1985 at Bathurst. Watched it on TV.
I was at Bathurst for 1984.
There were more people watching practice on Friday in 1984 than there was watching the race on Sunday in 1985.

george fury was on pole for the 1984 bathurst turbo 1800 cc.i like the idea of different makes an model of car if they would be racing in the touring cars,i think that wayching the touring cars for the last 15 years or so have being boring like watching paint dry.

They need to do something dramatic if they want to keep the public interested. My very first trip as a kid to the 1975 Bathurst was something that will remain with me till I am gone. But I don't watch it anymore because I can't relate to the cars racing.

its still the best racing going round atm watching it on TV is no comparison than being at the track
and imho bringing in different cars with different engines is just going to frOck it up
but we shall see what happens in the future

Cant remember who did it but someone in the turbo years plumbed the fire extinguisher over the intercooler and fired it while coming down conrod during qually to cool it down and make more power.

V8s don't have a big following mate.
I was at Phillip island and there was more people involved with the race teams than there were paying spectators.
The quality of racing was excellent which is why I couldn't believe the shitful crowd.

frOck parity
Lets race !!
Couldn't agree more... That is what makes Motorcycle racing so much more interesting.. And I know Moto GP has some sort of parity devices. (They all run the same ECU & Tyre's)
But let the rest go, let reliability be the great equalizer... The best car racing this country has seen in my lifetime (and Bathurst was still in Black & White when I was 12) was the 1969 to 1979 Australian Touring Cars.. Production Cars, divided into groups by purchase price. In this time they went from Standard Production Cars to fairly Highly Modified Production Cars. And they did this with very little Parity.......... Lets go back to the future .. Just saying ..

Everyone goes there for the atmosphere and sound and leave disappointed due to the "f1 sound" no longer there.
People get more excited when the old display car does a few laps and that screaming f1 sound bounces off the walls/buildings.
.......then out comes that anouying buzzy drone..... yawn.
