Can anyone recommend a zinc plater in outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne? I have seen some impressive results on this forum  from some members build projects. It seems to be a lot cheaper than chrome plating (obviously nowhere near the work involved) and they don't come up as good as chrome, but is a cheaper alternative for bonnet hinges ect. Also notice some get silver, some gold plated, is there any reason for this?. There are also pressure pack products gal/zinc finish on the market from "eastwood" brand I think, about $40 a can, anyone has success with these or metal finish spray cans from supercheap or the like (they currently have two for $30 in catalogue). Thanks paul

Have a look here Paul.   http://www.gmh-toran...e-zinc-plating/

The spray cans won't be worth the tin they come in.

Thanks for that mate, appreciate it, for about $40 I might give it a go, I don't suppose you have a better photo of how power supply connects do you? or has kit been  well and truly put to bed? Thanks again for putting link up, paul

I've done this Paul and it works a treat. Can't upload a pic but the negative side goes to the hanger(copper pipe) and the positive goes to the zinc anodes

thanks evl 666, I will definitely give it a go, just want to check what you used as a power source, I have two old mobile phone chargers I can use, 1 is 4.8v .9a, 1 is 5v .7a, I'm hoping these will work. Thanks paul

Guys, am having trouble sourcing zinc ignots/anodes to set kit up. Have tried Bunnings, fishing stores, plumbing supplies, scrap metal merchants without success. Any idea where I could source, preferably in Melbourne? Thanks Paul.

Paul,

Look up for Ship Chandlery or Boat repairer, Zinc blocks are used as anodes on steel boats to stop electrolis, and on out-board motors.

I got a1 kg block from a slipway boat repairer.

Basic green, yea it looks like will cost me about $50 for materials plus all the stuffing around, so might be easier to just go to platers. Not as much satisfaction as doing it yourself, but am doing as much as I can on project anyway, cheers paul
