What is a comet push type fan?
Do you mean the guts of the thermostat have been removed?
My LJ quickly goes up to 190F when sitting idling. Without the thermo fan it would be heading over 200F in no time

Is it an engine mounted fan or a thermofan mounted in front of the radiator?
An engine mounted fan or any thermo fan mounted on the engine side of the radiator must draw or pull the air through the radiator.
All you are doing by removing the guts of the thermostat is extending the period of time the engine takes to get up to running temp and probably causing excessive wear to the engine. Most engine wear occurs when the engine is cold.

So let me get this straight.
You have the thermo fan mounted in front of the radiator between the radiator and the grille, that is to say not between the engine and the radiator?
The fan is a puller type which means you are pulling the hot air from the engine bay back through the radiator and expelling it out through the grille?
