Hello Rick,
seen your other thread too, and now decided to say my bit as follow's:-
I used the n9y heat in the 9 port head with no problems,
having 17 degree idle timing with vacuum advance using the standard points distributor and a 30/70 cam.
So I thought, you should swap your distributor out,
and test the normal standard points or electronic blue one and see if that helps.
otherwise, as said before, make sure the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is in the correct position.

The plugs with "r" are "resistor type plugs as in they have a "built in" resistor (or spark gap) inside the plug.
Pingin is usually an advance issue due to "pocket/s" of mix becoming "superheated" during combustion and burning at
very high temps/pressure out of whack with the rest of the charge ? ....where's oljohnno ?

^^^ ooops too bloody slow
The "R" in the plug number designates a resistor plug. Used in reduction of radio interference generally speaking.
It wont have any affect on the plugs performance.

And for your info, I'm currently running BP7EY. But the 6 range should be fine.
Back to basics on the timing mate, set the dizzy up firing right on number 1, & check the degrees on the balancer.

18 initial sounds like a lot, but if the dizzy only has 10 degrees advance its not... We need to know this stuff to advise correctly.

Did you say you had your dizzy re-graphed by hume performance? If so, I had a dizzy done there but unfortunately it ended up with more advance than intended.
They intended for 10 degrees advance in the dizzy, but when I set the ignition to 20 at idle, and checked with the light at 3500 (advance all in by 3000), the actual timing when all in was close to 38- we guessed about 16-18 degrees advance was what was actually in the dizzy. As you would guess the car was pinking and carrying on with this setting. So moral of the story is don't trust the 'advertised' advance in the dizzy, check it with a light.
They were nice blokes and rather helpful but in this instance it seems they put too much advance in it. They did fix it and were more than happy to resolve the matter.
BP6 should be fine. You don't need the resister but its still good to run them. The plugs wont have anything to do with the pinking but the mixture would if too lean. Also check for air leaks.
