Gday have an slr ashtray and its smooth black not grain is this an unpainted silver one or did they make a black lh slr thats smooth?

No smooth Black LH SL/R ashy trays. Should be the same finish as the dash. Throw it over your shoulder.

It's probably a painted silver one or one that's had the silver paint removed. Painting dashes back in the day wasn't uncommon, usually it'd be the woodgrain SL ones that'd be painted silver.
