Well this is a little different to what we normally post in this section.
Most of the time it's other cars, just not Toranas.
We have seen one Cubby House build.
Well my next project is a combination of the two.

I was itching for onather project. It was going to be another custom bike, then I thought my love of the VK Meannie was going to take shape, and I even contemplated supercharging my Hatch.
So, to keep the peace at home, I bought a 2004 Mitsubishi Rosa mini bus, and I'm going to deck it out as a motorhome!
It's time to create some childhood memories for my kids.
Now I know a bus is not every bodies idea of the ultimate cruiser or holiday mobile, and some would say a caravan is better cause you have your car when you arrive. The issue I have is I want to tow my boat too. Buggered if I'm going away to look at the water and watch others enjoy and me not able to waterski!
So, bring on the bus.
My intention is to build it twice. First time nice easy and simple. Then use it for a few months and wok out exactly what we want, then redo the fitout and give it a coat of paint.

So without any further delay, I give you the Big Red Wiggles Bus, or the McQueen Bus. Either one, just ask my 2 year old!!

Yeah for now, especially if I put a big yellow lightning bolt with the number 95 on the side. Gotta make my little boy happy

It's been a slow start, but I'm working on the fitout. My wife gave birth to a girl 5 weeks ago, and I have had the bus 4 weeks.
I need to also make the bus safe and legal for the family. So I bought a double coach seat with attached seatbelts so I can safely hold in the capsule and car seat.
I've got a lot of work ahead, but let the fun begin!

That sounds like a great project Grant. You sure have you're work cut out.
Ive often wanted a similar thing for the same reason. But no where to park it so van it is for us atm.
Ive never built a bus but had plenty of vans. The one thing i will say is make sure you put a decent size fridge in it. 150L minium. And if room permits a slide out fridge in the awning area for dads special drinks ;)

Going to start with my 40 litre Engle car fridge, and possibly buy a second larger one also. When the fitout happens for the second time then add the large fridge as you have suggested. To start with the intention is only as a weekender, nothing too over the top so shouldn't need too large a fridge to start with.
Given that I will need to be 0.00 to drive home the following day, my drinks will unfortunately be limited. I like your train of thought though

That is a good size Grant, not a full size coach but bigger than some of the smaller ones you see around.

I too plan to do this at some point.

Bus/truck with living quarters and a double decker car trailer with 4WD in the bottom and Torana on top :-)

Dreaming I know, but you don't get anywhere without a vision.

Should be a sweet project.
Go see a house demolition/recycler and grab a heap of solar panels and mount them up on ya roof. Then chuck a battery bank in somewhere and buy as many appliances that run on 12v as possible. Where thats not possible get a good inverter. (Pure sine)
then you should be able to camp (glamp?) in comfort and silence (no petrol generator...)
Depending where ya go you may need a large grey water tank fitted too, if your planning on having a sink or shower?
Many places are really clamping down on people dumping waste water.

happy trails.

It even has its own Garage door at the back to park bikes in!

Make sure you spend some $ on refurbishing the cooling system on the diesel, and all the fuel system is sweet. Last thing you want is to overheat it out West (or North for you Mexicans!) and pop an engine.

Please elaborate. I have never had a diesel like this before so any advise would be welcomed.

I hope so Gene, otherwise I'm wasting a lot of time

Just make sure the cooling system is up to scratch, cooking a diesel isn't like cooking a 202. Used 202's are almost free compared to a diesel!

And make sure the fuel system is in order, filters, water traps, tank clean etc. Anything diesel fuel related gets expensive and filters etc are cheap insurance. Make sure the aircleaner housing isn't rusty and no leaks in the air intake tract.

I'm only a diesel novice, others here will give you heaps more advice.
