Hi forum gurus, can any one tell me any history please on this JP engine
Cast date is 11M2,

Head is 2811930 13B4
HQ sump , HQ fan spacer

Hi

 

It appears on the disc as having been fitted to an Adelaide XU-1 completed 2/2/73 L229143 which was sold by Reg Hunt Rhodes of Elsternwick Vic.

The dizzy is a standard 202 type as is the head.

It looks like it has a low comp 202 head- same as fitted to gtr but obviously not XU1 head.

It looks like it has a low comp 202 head- same as fitted to gtr but obviously not XU1 head. 

2811930 is a low comp 138 & 173 head which is used on both high and low comp 202. Only the pistons fitted in the 202 determine if the engine is high or low comp. Hence the only way to visually identify an untouched factory original high or low comp 202 is by the engine number prefix. QM & JM are low comp, QL & JL are high comp.

Yes you are correct, sorry for that...I think my jibbered engwish is the problem and re-reading my post i can see how my writing can be interpreted...  it is a low comp head (or is it best referred to as open chamber?), which was fitted to 202s, not specifically a low comp 202 head. I think a comma could have helped.

 

I know the LJ GTRs also used these heads and many incorrectly think that it was specific to the GTRs, without realising that its head common to a number of engines.

Starting to strip and clean the JP and found a second block cast number behind the oil filter this side has a 5 whilst the exhaust side has the 2, more food for thought 👍Attached File  image.jpeg   177.64K   17 downloads

Now been stripped , and going for new Pistons , rings , blue motor crank ,
All balanced with crank , flywheel and clutch .

Hi Liz would you know what your original engine number is as I have a 4/73 Brisbane XU1 just wondering how close they are mine was built on 6/4/73

Hi Ian,

Both my XU1s are early 72 cars so they will be miles away from yours. Also both are Adelaide build cars. Both engines start with JP10**** and both are long gone unfortunately
