Yeah Tony, the back nuts on mine are seized ,I'm going to try soaking them in penetrene for awhile and then hold it with some locking pliers while trying to undo the nut.Dont think there is any other way .With a bit of persuasion I managed to get the pivot fittings off ,they are stuck onto the glass as well as screwed.

Be careful not to stuff the screw heads trying to unscrew them and the latch shaft with the locking pliers .

Mine were pretty badly rusted/seized also. Patience, wd40 & perseverance.
I had to slice a straight slot into one of the screws to remove it & I sourced some better ones to refit.

Good luck

I managed to get the pivots off ok with the Phillips head screw heads ,it's just the latch buttons I'm having trouble with ,as you can't really grip them to turn the back nut ,did you re stick the pivots to the glass Tony?

Nah. I haven't stuck them back on. I've currently got fibre washers on them but I'm not happy, so they'll go when I find something better. Bunnings has plastic washers but they're too thick.

These .

I think I held the latch side of that with multi grips & kept at it carefully. Can't remember, it was frOcken years ago now...

Funny.

I can remember my old car when these things were always loose.

They were the easiest way to get into the car if you left your keys inside.

Ha ha Rob,

I use to lock the Torana up, and get in via the flipper window.

Like button for you. :)

loose is right, use your fingernails to rotate the chrome locking knob.

Getting into them was easy.

Stealing the battery was even easier

I always took the dizzy rotor button out,

so the tory was still there when I got back.

I seen the newer locking mechanisms were better designed than the early one's, hey.

Had 3 mates with LCs and LJs before I got my LC

From memory I was the only one not to have the battery stolen.

But I lived in a small town.

Oh man, you guys are killing me, ha ha
The only reason I want to fix my windo is because you can open it from the outside.

I have been scratching my head on security.....sounds like I'm better off buying a big dog

I remember how to fix it the dodgy way Tony,

you put a stub screw in where the locking lever goes over and stops.

drill a small hole and tap it m3 or something, then cut a m3 cheesehead screw down to 4mm long and loctite in.

^ drill the metal sliding tab.

when i pulled apart my quarters.. I killed a few to get what I needed... I used vice grips to grip what I didnt need and saved what I did... I used a dremel to "cut" the bit off i didnt need... I used 8 sets of quarter windows to get 3 sets.. I got the three sets rechromed and sold off the 2 i didnt need and kept 1 for me.. wasnt a cheap exercise to rechrome..... Then Ive got some imperial "red" fibre washers and used them against the glass....

Back in the day there was a little stainless bracket you could buy that fitted over the lever and I think clipped into the bailey channel.

That stopped them from being opened from the outside.

I used to tighten mine up periodically. They loosened off after a while.

Another alternative may be to look at the locking type from a HG or similar and see if it can be used.

Great job Mike as always ,well I've managed to completely bugger up one so far trying to unscrew that back nut but I still have two more I can try ,I have them soaking in diesel.
