This may or may not have been dealt with before, however.

Am seeking the month and year the LJ XU-1 was fitted with a speedo showing metric unit of measurement (think MPH was also shown alongside).

Assistance appreciated.

Cheers Dave

So? Doesn't prove it is the correct speedometer for the instrument panel.

Perhaps it had one of those conversion decals fitted?

The part number on the back of the instrument panel will prove it came ex factory with an imperial only speedometer.

Dual scale speedometers were slated to enter production in March 1973 but for whatever reason the introduction was delayed until 1 July 1973.

It has 1/1973 date on back and it is not a Decal conversion Dave.

You sure 1/73 isn't actually 7/73?

BTW that instrument fascia is the 1972 type so those metric instruments don't even belong in that fascia.

The AMP and FUEL gauges are looking pretty sad compared to the other gauges too.

Can't see the two bottom mounting screw holes. Could be an LC fascia?

Agree

That one's a bit of a mongrel. From 1/1/73 should have the higher mounted brake fail light in accordance with ADR18.

Cheers

I may be wrong here didn't the Early 1973 LJ GTR's and Early 1973 LJ XU1's (Up to April 1973) Have the same Dash as the 1972 LJ GTR's and 1972 LJ XU1's same as the Clear indicator lenses, when April 1973 Clicked over then the higher mounted brake light came in and Orange indicator lenses ??????????

Al, ADR 18 'visibility of instruments' effective on and from 1 January 1973.

Amber indicator lenses and relocation of park lights to headlamps introduced into production in early December 1972.

Have seen gtr & xu1 "Brisbane"cars 4/73 & i think 5/73 might have both been 4/73 with original mph speedo dash im sure the high beam hand brake ect was 73 style & silver only around the very outside of facia & roebuck trim. Factory cars! & i have heard hq ran the same, roebuck, mph ect up to 4 or 5/73 Brisbane built. Gary ps Dave your a lc/lj guru mate. I enjoy your posts !

That's a early 1972 facia, its is a bitsa, the 1973 facia has a different habd brake/Brake failure light location.

Mike

Sorry my mistake it is actually a LC Facia, the earliest I know the change over was Aug 1973, though I suppose it could have been July,  Mike

While not an XU-1 my 5/73 LJ SL had a MPH speedo as per picture below and my 9/73 LJ S four door had a the miles and kilometres speedo.

I no longer have either car to check the dates on the back but the SL was completely originial when i brought it.

You can also see the higher mount brake light as Bazza has mentioned above.
