There has been heaps of threads/posts on polishing these trims.

They are aluminium trims with silver anodising over.

Polishing anything but very minor marks cannot be done - the scratches are in the anodising and it is very hard - seemingly impervious to polishing.

The anodising needs to be removed using a caustic soda and warm water bath - Youtube is your friend.

Warning - do not leave in the cautsic soda solution for long - monitor it several times - otherwise the solution will eat into and through the metal altogether.

Cheers, TB

There was a thread on here recently about them.

They are Anodized Aluminium, and to be done properly would need to have the dings, scratches removed, polished, etc, and be reanodized, the anodizing protects the aluminium and stops it corroding, but it also makes it difficult to repair.

You need to talk to a place that does anodozing, I know they can strip the colour from stuff, and recolour it, but in the process you usually loose the bright sheen it usually has and it ends up a mat finish, but maybe there are other ways to approach it.

The anodizing process effects the surface of the aluminium on a molecular level, so I image this surface would need to be removed before the trim could be repaired and re-anodized.

Be sitting down when you get the quote - the work is amazing but far, far from cheap.

If you want to have a go yourself then have a look at sites like these:
