Thanks Adam,

I've been scanning Gumtree, ebay & classifieds this morning too, and I have sent him an email...

Update:

Delivered the stripped car out to the panel beater this week, ready for a good massage.

The panel beater I have gone with wants to try & fix the original roof & structure, and worst case will put on a new skin, rather than cutting pillars....

We'll see how it goes.

Yeah that looks an easy fix for an actual panel beater (most these days should be called panel replacers).

Does not look as bad as thought it would be from a roll-over.

They need to do new roof top panel and new rear guards for LJ's, as there is new front guards and front nose panels and beaver panels, or dare i say it: New Shells :)

Hi xu2, yes they definitely need to do replacement 1/4 panels, turrets, bonnets, taillight panels & obviously door's. & why shouldn't you be able to say body shells ! You didn't mention anything dodgy. Imagine if you could buy a xy gt replacement shell for say 25k, you'd put that into getting a xy + the parts. People could build what they wanted, 1 of the guys i know built a new shell hotrod probably about 10 years ago got it painted, fitted a crate engine & box, bought a jag rear & painless wiring took him like 6 months to do & he was cruising for around 55k. Reckons it was easy & enjoyable to do. Gary.

These cars must be popular enough for them to make new Front Guards and the other panel parts they make, I am amazed that Rear 1/4 Guards are not made all ready. They did have door skins for 2-Door LC/LJ, I assume they are still available to buy. I guess if a Forum member had some new old stock left&right Rear 1/4 Guards and did some sort of Loan/Deal with who ever making the new parts (Rear Spares) or the Guy in Qld Jeff Bloom etc to get them done.

Thanks Guys,

Chris I went with Steve @ Rust & Smash.

I actually had a couple of 2 door roof cuts lined up, but when I spoke with Steve he wanted to have a go at getting it straight first, and worse case pick the spot welds & put on a replacement skin.... which is even better because then we could use a 4 door roof which are even easier to come by!

Just remember the turret is continuous seam welded to the roof rails on either side not spot welded.

Dropped into the panel shop yesterday to check on the progress - arriving to see the car sitting there with a straight(ish) roof once again put a smile on my face!

The windscreen fits in the opening and the doors are now closing properly, but a bit more tweaking to do to get the gaps right....

Sorry to hear about the roll over, sounds like a bit of a freak accident but glad your dad's ok.

Looks like the repair is coming along great.

And some more progress...

Really happy with how it is coming along, and the Panel guys are doing a great job - I'm sure hourly rate helps, but I really appreciate that he is taking the time to do it right - it's exactly what i was looking for.

Sure, on the outside you see a lot of bog, but check out the inside of the roof - I ran my hand over it & it felt as smooth as a new panel!

It should be ready for Hi-Fill next week, and then painting soon.

Steve is a good guy and a stickler for quality workmanship.

Glad to see its working out well. Its always makes me a bit nervous to make recommendations just in case something goes south

Yep, 2016 was pretty shit....

But the Torana has progressed on in the background, and I got a call today from the panel shop saying it's ready to be picked up!! :D

I'll pick it up on Wednesday, and put up some photos....

2017, you're looking much better already!! ;)
