As the title says.
Will the 460LE trans fit in a LC with out major tunnel mods? I believe this is the one with a cable control not ecm controlled but could be wrong. Had one in the 57 and seemed to handle the big block but never really gave it a hard time.
And does anyone know what the size difference is between it and a trimatic? Car currently has a traumatic with plenty of room to spare.

can't comment on the way it fits but with the 4L60-E the E stands for electronic and it needs a ecm .

4L60 is the cable controlled version

Pretty much like trying to fit in th400...make trimatics look tiny.

Have to chop bits off bellhousing & trim/grind excess basically to match block it bolts up to for exhaust clearance.

Then slice big chunk off other side to get as much steering clearance.

After having trimatic behind 355ci 4500 stally 4.5 geared vh sle all you really need is good auto builder.

If it's overdrive you want sounds like a lot of work especially if it's early block aussie bolt pattern...5spd supra or t5 seems easier

Just the over drive really
Was thinking of gear vebdors overdrive behind a th350 but thought this may have been a cheaper option

If current block was turbo pattern it would be.

I've used a dellows adaptor kit before...it's ok just not preferred way to do it.

Once you've done all the little mods required it would be set & forget....they're absolute mongrels with v8's to work on usually means engine in/out  a few times to get right.

However if got a hoist & can do the roll front end under-lower car down then would be do-able without going insane lol.

These are light as I'd try taller gearing first then a th700 conversion next...it's bit bigger than th350.

Dont forget aussie bolt pattern issue to deal with.

You mentioned a Gear Venders, I have wondered if they do one, or could do one for a TH180-Trimatic, or if the one for a power glide might be close enough with some mods.

So. To add to the confusion talking to a mate today he fitted a 4L60 in his LJ four door with no mods other than drive shaft?

So not sure what to think. Found this too as someone said they isn't a big difference in size compared to a th350

Is there much difference between an LC/LJ tunnel and an LH/LX?
The box fits in an LX with a slight massage with a hammer, maybe it will still fit the smaller Torana?
Food for thought

First major thing is yours is trimatic pattern it will need adaptor kit or block redrilled as th700 is turbo bolt pattern.

Next is bellhousing clearance particularly steering section...few hours on grinder.

Then few more making sure extractors fit in..have had to remake hurricane brand to fit with early heads...also remake bottoms on steel hsv/calais headers with efi heads.

Trimatic or p/glide look very roomy compared to turbo box

Most turbo pattern auto need 2 knuckle mod whereas some trimatic/m21 cars just get away with 1 knuckle.

It's doable once you spend time setting it all up but first you got bolt pattern issue to solve.

As an aside I've bolted up trimatic/banjo tailshaft to get cars driving. Each car different when messing with old holdens.

Lh/x torries & early commodores seem huge when you can fit ya hands in them not get stuck lol

Your after a th700-r as from vn-vp commo 5L which are hydraulic cable pressure.
The 4L60-e is an electronic box.
You'll find they're getting pretty expensive nowadays. As not many good ones left.
The trans case normally shits itself.

What about a later 5L VT commo box?
Pretty sure they have a removable bell housing from memory?
Just get the bellhousing modified to suit trimatic pattern or check with dellow, crs etc. And go full manual shift, or by the stand alone trans ecu
Think b&m and msd etc do them?
