A few days ago my dad and I drove 15hrs to NSW to pick up a 1970 LC 2dr Torana which to me was a dream because i have wanted to own and work on a torana for 4 years.

So on the way home from picking up the Torana dad had the great idea of stopping at Bathurst and taking a few photos. Sadly we couldn't get a photo with it near Mount Panorama but at least we got photos near the track.

This is the car. It has a lot of work to be done on it but it will definately be worth it.Attached File  20160902_221049.jpg   170.74K   12 downloads

The engine that came with the torana is a 186 that is worked and has triple carbies and also has a 4 speed gearbox.

You have your work cut out for you there.
I intend on doing a similar project with my son in years to come. Maybe not Torana, but what ever he is into.
Good luck with the build. I look, forward to the progress.

Good on you Ethan, i don't actually think the car is that bad, at least what can be seen in these photos, people should realize that by the time you fit new front gaurds, radiator support ect. Then you will have removed a fair amount of the rust. Depending on dad's skills tools ect, you can always ask advice on here mate, Gary.

Started slowly pulling the car a part and also testing a few angle grinding disks on the body to strip the paint off

Also have been trying to take out the heater box which is a prick of a job

Good luck with the build Ethan.

I remember working on my first Torana with my dad when I was a teenager and it has given me some great memories.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

Hi Ethan, mate im hoping that you're using clean & strip wheels ( seaweed discs ) on the grinder & not grinding disc's ? If not you'd better stop & get some or you're going to have to learn some bog skills very fast & you'd be wiping the whole car ! You can get them good tool shops & welding supply places, try to get the 1's with plastic backing & hold the grinder as flat to the panel as possible & watch the heat generated, hope this helps mate. Any questions, just ask us we're all here to help each other mate. Gary.

Yeah we just bought a few of those and that's what we have used on this panel, we originally started with flat disk but i didn't want to risk screwing up the body so we got the clean and strip disks instead

yeah we are going to be buying them from rare's because the original fenders are a little banged up because it was apparently involved in a small accident.

So good to hear, that you didn't use a normal disc. The repair would be a huge amount of work & a major pita. Gary.

As above, cherish every day with your dad mate. You only get one chance. & without sounding soft & emotional ect, make sure you tell him that you love him. Gary.

This week both Dad and I have holidays so we are trying to get stuck into it as much as possible so far we have almost got most of the panels ready for priming and we have also started cutting and wielding pieces onto the body

20161003_162547_zpspxyraayo.jpg

Bonnet, Boot and doors almost ready just need to sand blast to get the paint off of the hard to get places

a few pictures of the spots where we had to cut and wield.

we are slowly getting there.
