Hi Marty
Yes my GTR is 12/73 Brisbane, one of the last 40 or so built there and it has the adr27 engine like in the LH
Cheers Kev

Fitted the fuel tank and sender guard as well, both the tank and the guard are in great shape, just needed a clean both still have the original finish.

Looking excellent as always Kev. So much detail with everything on this restoration. Well done.

Time for an update. I sandblasted the front brake calipers, repainted them and fitted new pistons and seals.

Painted the yellow dot and fitted them up.

I wasn't sure I had the shock absorber colour right, so when I came across a couple of NOS shocks I bought them and had the colour eye matched.

Certainly ended up a lot darker in colour than I had originally.

I've been told the XF picking sticker went on the bottom of the front shock so that it could be seen after assembly to verify the right ones had been fitted.

Does anyone know for sure where they were placed?

Lastly I've had the wheels repainted so the black in the centre of the wheel finishes around the outside of the wheel cap.

I've never seen a GTR rim still in original paint so I'm kind of guessing here. I'd welcome any input on exactly where the black should finish.

Cheers Kev

Pretty sure the black goes all the way out to the bottom of the bulge Kev

Thanks Gene, you wouldn't have a picture of an original wheel by any chance? I'd like to make absolutely sure before I paint the wheels again!

Maybe third time lucky?

Here's some pictures of one of the original GTR wheels from my car.

The black almost goes to the bottom of the trough but I think that each wheel varied slightly depending on how the painter held the spray gun in relation to the masking disc placed over the black section when the silver was sprayed.

Nice work on the tailshaft stencilling, that's a fiddly one to do.

Thanks for the photos James, much appreciated. Those are the best pics I've seen of the painting of the centre.

And yes the tailshaft stencil is difficult to do, much use of 3mm fineline tape and swearing!

Here's a link to the inside of the same wheel.

I made a set of laminate discs with an mdf centre glued to them. Spray the entire wheel black and then place the masking disc in the centre of the wheel, the mdf centre which I just cut with the closest size holesaw I had in my set sits in the centre hole of the wheel. Next just spray the silver from numerous angles to give a neat circled edge around the black centre. I finished mine with a coat of KBS diamond gloss clear.

Kev, hope the project is going well, is it on the road yet? Just wondering if you can give any tips on getting the lines/shape to match the rest of the car along the rear 1/4's after putting repair panels in. On page 7 of your thread it looks like you have used a piece of flat steel to get the shape, and the finished product looks awesome. Was it hard to taper the shape from high point at rear arch to flat section at rear or car? Any help would be appreciated and if you have any pics of the process, that would be awesome, cheers paul.

Hi Paul,

No the GTR isn't on the road, I've been distracted getting my hatch driveable and club registered.

I don't really have any extra photos other than the ones already posted sorry.

One of the hardest parts of getting the lines right is trying to work out what the cars were like when they left the factory, we looked at lots of LC/LJ Toranas at car shows and they were all different in sharpness of line, where the lines finished etc. I ended up looking over a one owner LJ 2 door to use as a reference to try and get the lines right.

As far as technique is concerned, lots of use of  hammer and dolly, finishing up with a minimal amount of filler.

Cheers Kev
