Hi everyone!

New member, and I'm just trying to id a 76 LX hatch to confirm a genuine SS body.

All I have is the 10 digit chassis # (no plates on the car at all). Is it possible with just this number to confirm such information?

Also, can anyone advise how many pins the standard LH/X chrome tail light surround has? I've seen one with 1 pin (at the corner end, in center) but is anyone aware of surrounds have more than 1?

I've looked inside the boot and around the tail light edges for holes, there appears to be a sign of some sort of puncher (pic attached) but it doesn't appear to line up with the pin off a standard chrome surround??

Little stumped!

Fairly sure an SS did not have chrome surrounds... so if it does... there's you answer

Not much info can be gained from the body #

But post it up and someone might be able to help

Does it really matter? Once it has lost the ID plates it is just a Hatchback shell, so could be an SL or SS - makes no difference to its value. You can normally nail the car by the chassis number anyway if you have enough cars recorded around it.

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the cryptic picture.

I looked closely at a SL chrome surround and saw only (1) pin and assumed i was looking for only one hole in the body however, Ive since learned the surround carried one pin and the body also carried attachments/clips/pins to lock it into place - and so assume what I'm seeing in the pics are the body clips/pins..

After finding other similar markings around the light area I can only conclude its a standard SL shell.

Back on with the search :fishing:

If it's a good shell grab it, with no plates it makes no difference.

Noted, any guide on what a good shell is worth today??

Btw, is there a wanted thread where one can leave details for potential sellers on the forum?

Cheers!
