Sorry if this is the wrong section i couldn't decide, but i'm looking to rebuild my front end, new bush kit, springs, brakes(hq i think ive read are better?).

Also unsure what wheels i want to go with.

i'm a complete newbie when it comes to parts and don't have the money to be buying the wrong stuff, so hopefully someone push/slow me the right direction?

I currently have a 4cyl front end (had an opel motor) but have bought (hopefully) a 6/8 cyl K Frame but thats it so far, front end will be holding a 308 and will be just a daily driver car

Sorry for the tl;dr

Pics of the K Frame (if they dont help i can take others)

Thanks for any help

These might help, there is lots of info on here and many different opinions

Although I haven't yet driven my car I like suoerpro bushes, they look like a quality product and ny suspension arms move/pivot well

Will any of the parts from my existing k frame work with the new one?

Hi Dylan,

Yes, your upper arms, lower arms, stub axles, steering arms, rack & brakes will all work.

Basically, everything off the existing frame will bolt onto the new frame.

If using Hx stub axles you'll need to budget for a pair of Harrop steering arms as well (unless you can find a pair of genuine A9X items)...

https://www.harrop.c...ring-arm-torana

Also when ordering springs & shocks, bear in mind that the car will be 1" lower just by changing the stubs axle alone.

If you're going to the trouble, see if you can get your hands on a pair of UCAs off a UC Torana, they have "L" & "R" stamped into them (whereas earlier versions were universal side to side) and allow for a much better positive caster spec.

Hmm, so what do you actually gain from Hx stubs? is it worth it? i see a lot of people do it so assumed it was a good upgrade?

maybe its something i could do later? changing stubs doesn't look too hard(probably is)

whats a UCA :nada:  ?

Tried getting onto http://www.moogprodu...moog/suspension but it comes up with nothing :/

are these what i need for steering rack bushes? they're in the kit

  • 2x Sway Bar Link & Bush kit
  • 2x Steering Rack Boots

or just buy these aswell http://www.rarespare...px?product=RMK1

if on a serious budget then nothing wrong with rubber the kits link provided.

the practicality of everything off your 4cyl front end bolting onto your new lx(6&8) cross member keeps the budget down.

the hq stubbs, uca's and moogs are all upgrades, it just depends on your budget.

here is a link to moog anyways,  (for lx, if went hq stubs then grab the hq set they have)

http://www.ebay.com....rEAAOSwgQ9Vncis

and then just contact the ebay rubber bush kit and say "how much for your kit without the upper and lower ball joints?"

not sure if ALL "steering rack bush kit" comes in kit link you provided. am novice myself, think does.?

and things i can think of "missing" from kit that you'll need are

-sway bar MOUNTS bushes

http://www.ebay.com....X4AAOSwofxUbpcx

and if someone knows if that kit includes "k frame/crossmember to chassis bushes" (don't think does??) please inform, cheers

$350 for the kit without ball joints ($40 cheaper)
But I'll also have to buy some of the bushes it's missing, any bearings in the front end I should be doing whilst it's all apart?

I have just done a fair bit of this with my front end.

I got a pair of UC UCAs and also some UC steering arms. I had most of the bushes replaced and also bought a 287mm big brake conversion form UPC. If you watch them on ebay they often have have 99c auctions for their kits. They usually end up over a thousand dollars but I got a bid in at the last 10 seconds and got a full kit for $790. Brake conversion is well worth doing but if you dant have the budget for it the UC additions are worth doing anyway.

I haven't got my car running again yet, but Im hoping it will feel a little less boat like...

This is the rack end bush. Replace it while your steering rack is out, it's easier. :)

I just had a complete front end rebuild on my 2nd LH in the last few years. Can't go wrong with the Moog ball joints, they're cheap and better quality than anything available here. Best to buy them direct from the U.S they're cheaper that way. Buy the rubber bushes from Restocountry on Ebay, they're pretty good and good value also.

I'll have mine on the road soon Hainzy and come down to the Rat for a visit.

A lot of the bushes supplied in my Hamburger kit were in GMH packets.

Hello Fellow Members, just fitted some steering rack bushes , I found a number of loose bearings at the top of the pinion. There is a bearing that locates the bottom of the pinion shaft and I am now thinking these loose bearings should be in a case like the bottom bearing (not loose).. When I google Rack and Pinion bearing, there are two roller bearing that look the same. Should the bearing under the dust cover at the top of the pinion be the same as the one at the bottom. Sorry if this reads wrong, I am tired and in need of sleep. Regards Rainman

Just putting the steering rack onto the k frame in LX torana. The White Line spacers and bushes i bought some time ago dont fit?? The spacer is too small to slide over the original bolt.

Any one else had this issue and what other brands worked for you?
