Hi Guys,

Ive been having dirty thoughts about putting an LS into my sedan. looking for a very well mannered motor that had shit loads of torque and came across an LSA which is great value.

Can these be engineered or just the ls3 N/A.

Can you fit a 6l80e in the tunnel or will it require cutting. I have a 4l60e and its apparently rated to 800hp but wouldnt like to find out the hard way. Also i believe the bellhousing and convertor and different bolts patterns.

I spoke to one tranny builder who said the 4l80e should fit if i got the turbo 400 in there before but it might be cheaper and easier to get the 6 speed and would be a lot smoother on the road.

let me know your thoughts.

i am in the middle of a LS plus 6 speed conversion in a LH

My advice would be dont do it ....but i did ...lol ....and let me tell you every thing needs to be modified which all cost big $$$

Yes things can be made to fit and I made things worse for myself as went over the top with big brakes big wheels and tubbing the rear end and full chassis right through the whole car

if I had my time again I would go a strong 355 motor

Cheers Kevin

did you cut the floor for the box big kev? and was it an A6 or stick shift. My 355 would be limited to 430is rwhp where the lsa would start there and be better on fuel and more reliable hat whats giving me these dirty thoughts

The LSA is not a viable option in an LX in WA. Under the NCOP the maximum forced induction engine capacity for and LX is around 3900 cc.

When an LS engine is mounted in a LX the centreline of the crank is typically a bit higher than the centreline of the 355 crank. This lifts the transmission a bit higher behind the LS than it is behind a 355.

Transmissions that just clear the top of the transmission tunnel behind a 355 will typically have tunnel clearance problems behind an LS engine.

I think you will find the 6L80e will drag on the ground.

Maintaining 100 mm ground clearance with the 4L64e is difficult enough. The transmission tunnel requires a fair bit of massaging to make the 4L65e fit behind a LS. I decided it would be easier to fit a new tunnel instead. The 4L80e is bigger everywhere.

Yes i cut the floor ....i raised the tunnel hight for clearance to get the box at the correct angle

and as i said every thing you touch has to be modified

there is a lot to consider like wiring clearance issues fuel system and many more

thanks. the 4l60e i have is rated to 800hp so should be good for a stock LSA and im happy with the box. I know there is and extra bolt hole to fit the LS top but is this essential? and will my converter fit to the standard flex plate. i have seen the TCI flex plates that look like they take multiple types of converters

Hi Peter, there's also the reluctor wheel tooth count to look at depending on which ecu you have, can you run the 4l80e of the gm ecu ? I know that you are going for 4l60e, which would be converted to a 65e stronger, yes tci do heaps of parts to adapt, if you're chasing 450rwhp easy with a Ls3 mate & they're a good price now new, just cam, pipes & tune all good. Big Kev, can we ask how much the 6 speed was ? That would have to be the ultimate gearbox in a torana IMHO gary.

Hey Gary

My gear cost about $4500 from the states about two years ago

at the time it was cheaper to buy this way than buy here from Mal woods or Dellow

not sure about the prices theses days

Just found this thread, has anybody had any luck fitting the 6L80 into LH-LX? Just bought a 2007 ve SSV to get all of the running gear from.

I would also like to know how the 460le goes in and what hurdles do you have to go through?? I was thinking of a Rod Shop conversion kit. Has anyone used them before??

If you are handy with tools and/or fabrication or stinking rich then anything is doable.
