Did the LC LJ XU1s and GTRs use the same clamps for the swaybars or did they change the design thru the years ??

Hi

These are original from a '72. I don't recall my '69 clamps being any different.

Cheers

This is the original LC GTR sway bar clamp used but under load they failed and GMH replaced them under warranty in mid to late 1970 when you went back for your service on your vehicle this is how a mate of mine had his done.

I've never seen one like the photo Gene posted, but I guess this explains it. It almost looks home made. No Idea why they would think a square extrusion like that would survive under the loads it would have to withstand; no real surprise they ditched them.

Hi

I found a reference to "Stabilizer Shaft Attachment Revised - Torana GTR" in Nov 1970. As mentioned, it was a warranty replacement issue. It doesn't show what the old clamps looked like, but mentioned that the old U bolts and related components should be discarded and 4 revised U bolts and components fitted. The new U bolts were 3/8ths in. diam.

I once broke 6 ins off the end of the sway bar of my '69 GTR but never had any problems with the clamps - perhaps the clamps had already been replaced as the car was 1 year old when I bought it.

Being a rare piece, I reckon Gene should take that funky looking clamp 'straight to the pool-room".

Cheers

Bazza

Bazza

Bazza,

I found a diagram (drawing) for attachment of the sway bar and clamps in the LC Torana workshop manual. They look hauntingly like the clamp that Gene posted a pic of.

Cheers

Dave.
