Hi, I realize this is not a holden engine but it is going in an LX torana so I feel its appropriate. Im just wondering if my goals are achievable. The engine is as follows, 2jz 10:1 compression, mildly ported head ( 240ish cfm ), 253@50 cams, good custom intake plenum and exhaust. A340e auto, 4000rpm stall, 4.86 or 5.13 gears. I figure to run 12's @ 108ish mph in my car ( roughly 2900lbs ) its going to need near 300hp. Seem achievable? Cheers

300 fwhp will be $$$ but not impossible.
Why not the turbo route, I reckon the same or less money, plenty of options, and room to improve 400 whp++ for relatively less cost?

Got the right equipment to have any power you need.
Is said the 2jz is a bolt in 1000hp opportunity.

How'd you reach this figure?

Yeah actually already been down the turbo/ twincharge 1jz route lol. best it ran was 9.6@141mph. Obviously the car is not teched etc so I have to slow it down anyways. So I thought the car is setup for a JZ to why not an NA 2jz build. I figure the car should weigh around 29-3000lbs as they are supposed to start at 1180kg + driver and probably 100lbs of extra weight. Heres a video of the previous setup for interest sake.

I thought I would update on this, got it running and took it to the drags. Ended up running a best of [email protected]. With more converter and tyres it would run 12's easy enough. Lol it does nothing till 5000rpm and the converter only goes to 3500.

In a few other forums they only seem to be
extracting 350 hp out of these beasts, that will
near quite easily hold together with 700 with
Stock internals.
Theres a guy on here with a tad over 400
With a jz head on the trusty hold 6.
it wouldnt be as reliable as the j.but with a
head flowing 240cfm why are these donks not producing more hp na...keen to know
Cheers maz

Its interesting to see one of those engines that does not rely a turbo. Surely it would be more reliable than the old red motor. Have you thought about multi throttle bodies?

Yeah I have though of Individual throttle bodies but for drag racing I really don't think its worth the little extra response. I'd love to know what the fastest NA 2jz powered sedan is. The fastest I can find is in the 13's lol. The heads on these still have got nothing in the likes of bmw etc. So Im guessing thats one of the reasons they dont make more power and the 1:1 rocker ratio ( shim bucket ). Id like to see that 400hp hold 6 in a car and put on the track, even the fastest holden 6 sedan is still only making around 350hp. Going by the weight this thing is making around 280-290hp. Cheers

It just goes to show how effective a turbo is. It seems that with out a turbo most 3 litre (200 CID), including the little Holden, engines are good for around 300 to 350 HP NA. Real hot ones around 400 HP, most likely built by a professional engine builder. i know a few circuit Holden 6s around 320 to 350, 9 port head. In Street Machine Dec 2016, Hi-tec engine builders have a Jzed headed red pumping out 450 HP NA. I think the BMW M3 race engines are around that as well. There's always the feared 265 hemi lurking around.
Sounds like you have a good challenge on your hands to get the 2jz to crack 12s. I think there's one around here where i live ,NA, it sounds fantastic like an exotic Euro sports car. it might be a Soarer ,however its spelt, every time i hear it coming i try to see just what it is.

Would be fun to take a 2jz-gte, throw away the turbos and see how much nitrous it could take.

2.13 was the best which is just awesome lol. It should go 1.7's with a converter hopefully. I measured my secondary pipe length which are 2.5" and 13" and 17" long then to a x-pipe to twin 2.5 out the back. Im thinking I might lengthen them a bit.

The crowd demands in car audio.
I have always wondered what an off its tits aspirated 2j would sound like....

What sort of tyres are you running, slicks or road?
Your secondary pipes do seem a bit short, in my opinion, I would have them close to equal length.

Still only road tyres at the moment, I'll see how they go lol.
