can someone please tell me what it is for?

The 2809857 radiator also suits LC 2600 (M) and 2850 (M) . So yes, date code L 9 could be November 1969

This radiator came in a 2/70 lc gtr.

I think it's the number of fins per inch between the vertical tubes.

the XU1 has more, increased surface area and better cooling
