Hi guys,

just wondering on your thoughts on whether to install air conditioning and power steering to a LX hatch that will have 10" rims to the rear and 8" rims to the front.

I would never take the car out on a day that was over 25 degrees or if the roads were wet.

Regards.

Dont know why you would restrict your driving pleasure like that but each to their own.

Search member axistr.

He has developed an engineered power steering set up which works very well.

He has also fitted aircon to his projects.

Look him in projects and be prepared for a long interesting read

I don't know how or why power steer & air con can restrict your driving experience but this is how I did it!

Most spanner swingers should be able to figure it out..it's not rocket science.

I think the restricted driving pleasure remark was in regard to not driving the car if it is over 25 degrees or raining. I +1 that remark. Add a decent heater and air and drive the thing all year round!!

G'day Jeff, I try to get one of the torries out at least once a week,  Your right with a v8 up front and extractors even on a 25 deg day it doesn't take long for the cabin temp to  climb well over 30 deg. I can get my cabin temp down to 23 deg on a 40 deg day. With the way I set up my A/C I can have heated air con air which keeps it toastie worm inside but more importantly dry so the windows don't fog up. We use both cars rain or shine just not the hail part, we rarely drive with the windows down. The power steering is a straight forward conversion. I might be getting a bit soft in my middle age but I wouldn't take them out much either with out the power steering. I built the cars to be used and enjoyed and now my wife and kids love to drive them  all year round. When the LH was an immaculate stock 173 auto all original, after a month no one in the family wanted to take it out, they got hot and bored, it took the mod cons to get them excited again so it wasn't a dramatic change from their daily drivers.

Hi Paul,

The compressor is a Sanden SD5H09.

Bracket is a LH/LX alternator, reversed with spacers to low mount the compressor.

I made the 5mm stainless PS pump mounting plate. It also secures 4 head bolts, spacers & the 2 compressor bolts & spacers.

The pump pivots on 1 bolt & 2 bolts in slots to tension the V belt.

The black plate with idler pulley is a modified alternator plate design which also picks up the 2 compressor bolts.

I used all 4 end of head bolt locations to attached the assembled unit.

The rest is trial & error..

Hope this helps.
