Didn't realise it was that close in the end.
Don't forget they blew a tyre as well.

Don't take any notice of the Brock miniseries. The sole reason the XU1 didn't win in 1973 was Chivas ran out of fuel and rather than coast into the pits he tried to start it again rolling into the pits and thus had to push it uphill. They simply made up stories for the Bathurst races in the TV show, another was Brock in the car at the end of the race in 1969, he'd been yanked out hours earlier.

Brock did blow a tyre (right rear from memory) in the latter part of the 1973 race, up at Mcphillamy I think. The estimate was a loss of 60 seconds in total, and hence why a deal is made of the loss by 50 seconds. But that is all irrelevant in my opinion. The reason they lost is because, as you say, Doug C tried to jump start the car on the run up pit lane. He was a great bloke; but I bet he regretted that decision for long after. And yep, Des West was there to teach Brock in 1969, and he wasn't learning. So H yanked him, and left Des to do the majority of the driving.

I think Harry's problem was Brock wasn't listening. They did make a reasonable deal of this in the miniseries but not regarding 1969.

Yep. Correct. Didn't listen. I think Tomas Mezera said something similar regarding Brock in the 1994 Bathurst 1000. That race was their's for the taking....I think Harry's problem was Brock wasn't listening. They did make a reasonable deal of this in the miniseries but not regarding 1969.
I also had a look again about 1973. Brock finished with two flat rears, Bond with one flat rear. Caused by debris from Gary Cooke inverting his RX2.

Don't worry all memory of that miniseries has been blocked out except for the bit at the hospital near the end when Bev is wearing tight jeans.
