Get out your 1972 calendar & see if you can find 22 on the 16th week or 16th on the 22nd week ?

Gary, I believe the date code is year/week of the year/day of the week

ie: 2216 = 1972/ 21st week of the year/ 6th day of the week.

Grantly, you will find the cast date under the fuel bowl, this one has a cast date of 1/72 and is one from the 2nd batch of carbies used in 1972 from late April.

Gary on the faces of your carbies you will find 226T or 226A...........

Saturday & Sunday are highlighted in red to say days off, right up till the last couple of years, Sunday has always been considered the 1st day of any week. Look at pay sheets Sunday to Saturday. We need to go back to a normal looking calender & it was an 8 hour shift in the 70's, Gary.

I think it would actually read

2216 = Friday 12th of may 1972

2293 = Tuesday 4th of July 1972

2393 = Tuesday 12th September 1972

Happy to be corrected, but if you count the weeks properly and use Sunday as the 1st day of the week, that's what i got

Gary. Put up a calendar Ian if you like & we can work yours out.

Hi Ian

These are the 1st batch of 175 CD Stromberg carbies used in 1972, 949/3521 = Rubber Fuel Lines

These can be found on the initial 200 1/72, 2/72 LJ XU-1,s and also the 100 3/72 LJ XU-1,s. From very late April 1972 GMH started with there 2nd batch of carbies, being 226/3547 Metal Fuel lines, Brass tag reading 2056/3547.

Gary

Over the years I have come across 4 different dates on your batch of carbies, the 3rd batch. They are as follows :

2214/3547

2215/3547

2216/3547

2217/3547

The 2216/3547 being the most common...........

After doing some surfing there appears to be 2 companies producing reproduction carby tags. Brad at XU-1 Heaven and Mick at Torana Restoration Parts and Accessories. Here are the tags and table from Torana Restoration Parts and Accessories. They all but nailed it, though there are a couple of mistakes 31 = week is one, should read 13 = week plus they have missed a batch of carbies, and got the 2383 and 2393 around the wrong way which is understandable.........

Over the decades looking at LJ cars that still had the original tags two things have stood out to me .

1 - the top tag numbers are not all the same - for example 3134 [ vac carb ] , and 3133 for carbs two and three .

2 - The stamping positions of both top and bottom sets of numbers of each tag vary within the tag borders

Dead easy to spot repro tags cause they stick out like dogs balls.

So many cars missing tags end up having identical triplet tags .

2217 [vac carb ] , 2216 for carbs two and three would be a correct tag set in my book.

2393 [vac carb ] , 2392 for carbs two and three also correct tag set .

This certainly was the case for the 200 2/71 and 200 3/71 and 4/71 LC XU-1,s though it was the type that was used and not the date.

3380/3381

048 = 1970 48th week

I cant ever recall ever seeing anything but a 1404 or a 2056, I'm not saying they don't exsist, just that I have never seen any ! ! !

A 1404 to compare :

When the repos get a bit of age to them I don't think they look to bad, certainly better than nothing.............

Kockum, the last 5/73 cyan blue that sold at Shannons, Sydney had two different tags 3017/3547 and 3023/3547 as did the purr pull 4/73 that sold at Shannons Melbourne.    hhmmm
