A PO probably added some doodad and put in that hole for the wiring or tubing. Custom mods were all the rage in the 80's.

But is it really a hole??? We are all assuming it is a hole but perhaps it is just a disc of missing metal and not a hole at all. :)

I reckon that too. The holes on my car look like they have either had hooks in those holes holding the weight or a bar between the two with a chain/s holding the weight.

I saw a pic last night of HD assembly and I think the may have assembled the motor and box onto the front crossmember then fitted the lot to the car on the line.

I cant find the pic but will look again............

More than likely two purposes crumple zone area and location point for jig when welding body together.

It could be, on many structures they leave the lifting lugs in place after installation, they wouldn't bother filling in holes either.

In crumple zone do you mean car bends up to
that point? as the little area surrounding it
is strengthened by means of ribbing or
raising? the sheet metal to stiffen it..

Don't bet on it, not this Dave anyhow  :)

All LC, LJ & TA have those missing metal discs ;) and I'm betting HB Torana also.

May be to do with ADR 10A however more likely for assembly line jig location. :dontknow:

The holes in my 74 lj definitely look like a hook was used in them.

Cheers Graham.

Nah, if it's a lifting hole, it would've been pre engine installation, way too unsafe for sheet metal holes to carry that much weight.
