Thanks again Lc
seems 185/70/13 theres a few available, i contacted antique tyres re red line tyres, 390 a tyre! Geezus!
He said he can also do a white line tyre (thinner white band than whitewalls)
for 150 a tyre .
, Ive since spoke with a mate that purchased whiteline tyres for his monaro and had the line painted red proffesionally, ive seen the car and you wouldnt know the difference, saved big dollars, so theres another possibility.
Also leaning towards white line as i feel the red line may clash with the orchid pink paint black vinyl roof.
will check out your brake thread to learn a bit more.
thanks guys.
cheers

I believe there is one or two people painting the tyre walls in Brisbane.
The 14" tyres that were original installed on mine were done afterwards, not specially purchased.
I plan to make some phone calls myself to find someone. I'll let you know if anything turns up.

I got image red walls in burpangary to do the white walls on my ss, you have to clean the painted 1's every time you drive the car, red is a smarter option. $150 for the 4 top bloke. Gary.

Did they mention the brand of the white line tyre? Would they be a Federal? The red line is the BF Goodrich. Great looking tyre and wall depth as well.

They didnt mention name of whitewall.
redline was bf goodrich, but 390 a tyre scared me a bit.

the old tyres ive got in now are bf goodrich, and yes they are a nice fat rounded tyre, might see if i can get them but not in redline, no doubt still top dollar.

Suspect the white side wall tyres are these Maxxis ones

http://www.antiquetyres.com.au/1318580

Interesting size; 185/80x13. 24.7" diameter may actually be a little closer to the original B70x13 crossply tyre. 185/70 diameter is less than the B70.

The whitewall were goodrich also, he mentioned he could get them with a thinner white line similiar to redlines, or at least thats how i interpreted it, will look further into it if i call him again... i asked him if they would suit a 5.5 or 6inch rims and he said they spread over nicely (whatever that means)
do you think that size tyre on 6 inch rims may not be suitable, too thin looking?
Cheers again

185 was standard radial size fitment on many 5.5" and 6" rims in the day. My 911 had 185's originally on 15"x6" Fuch's, as did my old E31 track pack Pacer run 185 Michelins on the 6" wheels. I currently run 185's on my LC XU1. I like the 185's on the LC, as the steering is lighter than with 205's, and personally, I find the car much more 'chuckable' with them as well. Depends what you are after though.

I'm looking at some new tyres for the XU1, so might talk to Antique Tyres myself. It's hard to justify $1600 though for a set of tyres that will be lucky to do 5,000 miles before they're past the use by date (no one will balance my tyres currently as they are over 5 years old).

Yes the redlines are expensive, big difference between whites at 150 a corner and reds at 390 considering both bf goodich.
thanks for info re 185s for 6 inch rims...good to know that they are suitable and look good too.
thanks

What a load of shit! How do they justify that?

Yep. My thoughts exactly. Not sure if there are any tyre fitters here, but the claim (I've tried four places now) is that because of the age of the tyres (they are 8 years old, but I have been told by each of them greater than 5 years), they may damage the sidewall with a weight and they don't want to be responsible if the tyre fails. If this is truly a 'law', then it is designed to put money in tyre shop pockets in my opinion. This is also in SA, where cars don't need RWC's.....

Go to a large franchise ( BJ Tyrepower etc) and ask to get the job done. If they complain, contact head office. Make sure you get the name and photo of the person refusing the job.

I have been to Beaurepaire, Bob Jane, Bridgestone and called a small independent. All gave the same answer. It may be an SA law. SA has the greatest bureaucracy and is the biggest nanny state in Australia, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Odd. The ADR regarding tyres is a national thing. If it is some law in SA, I'd like to see what it says. In fact if I remember, I'll call an Adelaide tyre dealer during the week and ask.

I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

I am going to call Wright wheel alignment this week and see what they say. They did the last alignment for me.

Was having a senior moment. That was Light wheel alignment in the city in Adelaide. Just spoke with them, and he said no problem. The 5 year thing is a 'recommendation' by tyre places. Seems like they are trying to formalise the 5 year thing to force people to buy new tyres.....Anyway, problem solved.

Wheels and tyres come under ADR 24. That's an AUSTRALIAN standard, set by Canberra. The states can't over ride that. Nor can individual companies.
