Hey guys, would like some opinions on what cam to go for for my 202. I'll start with the motor..
10.6:1 comp

YT Roller Rockers

Triple 45mm dellortos.

Driveline..

Aussie 4 speed (XU1 ratio)

Diff 3.90:1

I don't mind if it's lumpy but I still want to be able to drive it around town.

Rev wise, I'm happy to rev it a bit past 6000.. so i was thinking a solid cam.

I have the opportunity to buy a camtech. solid 248 @050, 106*LSA, lift = 501
would this be too big?

Cheers

For everyday driving that diff is miles too low. You'll be driving it round near the redline on the open highway with 13' rims.

I'd find a 3.36 if it was me.

yea I've always been a bit worried with that.. might see how it goes

Was originally thinking a cam tech 238 @050 108 LSA and 495 lift

Yep, that's about what I've got in my old girl too Gene & with 3.9's behind a Toyota manual box with a solid 500 lift cam, perfect for street cruising, and some daily work travel.
For something just to cruise around in, don't get too hooked up on cam specs, just make it a lumpy stick & chuck it in. The triples will certainly wake it up though.

The camtech one is not too big but you lack adequate compression to get the most out of it. That said, it would still be ok and a lot of fun to use. Stick with the 3.9 gears tho if you do decide to use it.
If your worried about 3.9's on the highway maybe look at the second cam tech can you mentioned. You could probably run taller gears and it would be more suited to your compression I would imagine.

It could have a bog stock factory cam and still take off well with that diff ratio

My angry 202 hated the 3.9 diff. 3.55 was heaps better, VN Borgwarner diff (with VL 3.45 gears) is better again... feels like it could go down some more but I don't want to start riding the clutch to take off. And all in an HJ with 5 speed. I reckon at least 3.36, if not the 3.08.
