Hi

48V is plain Sandalwood vinyl. Sandalwood with houndstooth inserts would be 48W. See 48V below.

Herringbone wasn't available on the LC models. 1829 on the trim line is Holden's reference to Duchess Gold Metallic.

Cheers

Thanks for clearing that up
So these seats I have would be for a LJ GTR? as the front seats are the low back one's with out the head rests & rear seat doesn't have the head rest bulges

I guess my vehicle is a bitsa( a bit of everything )
I'm gathering the Bathurst/XU1 big tank that's in it was not a 71 LC GTR option either?

So much to find out about this car and so much to learn

Hi Paul

All LJ seats have the headrests. Yours are likely to be LC seats reupholstered but they could be LJ with the headrests removed.

If the rear seat backrest does not have the raised humps along the top then it is originally from an 82311 Torana S.

Correct, all GTR had the 10 gallon tank. The 17 gallon tank only came with RPO XU1.

Cheers

Dave.

The seats where definitely showing some age when I bought the car some 20 plus year's ago (mid 90's)
especially the driver's seat
so I'd say they would be original and not reupholstered
The rear seat backrest doesn't have the humps and front's without head rests
I had my hopes up that these where period correct for my vehicle & was looking forward to getting these reaupolstered down the track as I don't mind the look of the herringbone
( I'll have to take some more pics to show seats in more detail)

And with the 17 gallon tank was it possible to order a GTR with that option?

AFAIK, Herringbone cloth was released in early 1973 with the 50 series trim codes.

If this is correct then GMH never stitched 40 series Sandalwood vinyl or Flax vinyl to Herringbone cloth, your seats would have to have been reupholstered.

Interestingly I noticed in one of your pics what looks like 50 series Doeskin vinyl securing the cloth to the back edge of the seat.

I wouldn't put it past a Dealer fitting an XU1 tank at the buyers request but ex factory I doubt it.

Correct Paul. 48V is Sandalwood vinyl interior trim. 567-13124 is Duchess Gold (metallic) paint.
If you remove the compliance plate the last 4 digits of the PSN will be scribed into the back of the plate.
The PSN will enable the completion date, sales month and selling dealer to be identified.

Dave

what's the best size drill bit to drill the rivets out with
Just don't want to f*!K the compliance plate or body up by drilling holes that are larger than need be

Cheers

Gene, your thinking of the pop rivets used in later LH onwards tags.

Push the centre of the rivets up gently with a roundish ended tool 4mm +/-  in diameter and they should pop up & out of the tags.

Perhaps hold or have an assistant hold a block of timber over the tag to stop it lifting suddenly and bending.

I tapped my rivets up from underneath with a small hammer ,you might even be able to grind from underneath if its just the hardware style rivets ,less chance of you damaging the tags.

I have used a small hammer in the past and a long bolt a little smaller in diameter of the rivets , came out easy ,
Once I was lying in the floor well with a torch , that is.
Or you can also use a small drill bit to drill the centres out, think Iv seen replacement rivets on eBay ?

So all went well removing the ADR Tag yesterday
Used a pin punch slightly larger than rivet protruding threw the panel
Happy to see four numbers lightly scribed on the back of the ADR plate, though a little hard to read
With a little clean up was able to see the numbers 1222

hi all

in need of info about my 1971 LC GTR?
i bought it in about 1997?( Memories a bit hazy on exact year )
as a complete roller/minus the engine, also missing the vin tag
purchased from Darren Lewis from Lewis Race engines
i would like to find out all info about the vehicle if possible

Body identification plate  reads

Model - LC 82911
Body no - 3677-A
Trim - 1829-48v
Paint - 567-13124

Safety compliance plate reads

2,3,4,5A,7,8,10A,15,20
          HOLDEN
LC TORANA SEDAN 2 DOOR
7/71           ALC 33351A

Chassis number

ALC33351A

thanks in advance for any help

Paul

Thanks all

Confirms what another forum member said and a little bit more info ( cheers )😁
With this info are there any other details about the build that can be found out that are specific to the vehicle,ie diff ratio, gear box type, racing stripes on paint work etc
Also what's the go with the production build date being 24/8/71 and the date 7/71 on the ADR Tag?

Paul

The BETSBAC on the warranty service records tells us it was a std GTR build for the time period. ie: M20 4 speed transmission and std 3.08:1 ratio differential.

Note: both the Opel 4 spd and the Aussie 4 spd are called M20 transmissions so could be either box but technically should be the Aussie M20 4 spd.

For reasons unknown it appears the completion of the car was held up by over 3 weeks.

173 the only engine I don't have
But something I'll definitely keep in mind when the time comes, have seen a couple XU1 engines for sale and are bringing crazy stupid $$prices$$,One seller wanting $17,000? WTF, so I guess GTR donks wouldn't be far behind

Do we know how many 7/71 to 1/72 LC GTR Torana's were built , I haven't come across anything on the forum so far

I don't have any official figures however I'm sure I remember reading somewhere, perhaps it was in Torana Tough?, that there were no more than 700 LC GTR's built with the 173s engine.
