82911CL169491 is an LC GTR completed at the Elizabeth VAP on the 18/02/1971.

It was sold by dealer 158 on, looks like, (a bit smudged on the VML) the 05/71.

There is no engine number recorded.

I have dealer 158 as Sydney Atkinson Motors in Perth W.A

I'm sure you know Dave, but that only works for Adelaide built cars. The numbers in grease pen on the back of Brisbane built cars correspond to the body number on the trim tag.

Yes, if it had been an Acacia Ridge chassis number I would not have bothered mentioning it.

It's not uncommon for LC Torana's built at the Brisbane plant for their chassis numbers to be all over the shop. I have seen some where 1 or 2 numbers may be up to 1cm higher or lower than the rest.....

Can anyone tell me where or how you decode the chassis stamp

it is LC05842A

I also have the Body Identification plate

Not much can be deciphered from the Chassis number except that your LC GTR body was assembled in January 1970 at the Elizabeth BAP in South Australia.

Being an Adelaide car, if you carefully remove the Compliance Plate on the upper dash panel (near the wiper motor) there should be at least 4 numbers scribed into the reverse side. These are the last digits of the PSN. They can be used to look up the VML to determine your cars identity (Production Sequence Number).

Upon having more time to extrapolate your GTR's numbers I am leaning more towards your car being completed in December 1969 so it will not have a compliance plate in that case.

Hi Fellas, trying to become a Torrie owner but it's a battle at the moment!

Looking at an LC GTR.....82911CH200566 so the plate obviously is a legit GTR & seem to have right engine number too from the warranty report (F008923). Just wondering if there's a way to match this vin plate to the body number plate etc to ensure it's original to the car...? The paint on the body plate matches the paint (lone ranger) & all seems to be legit but I'm no expert so would love some guru advice Cheers

Yes they say something about that in the add.....was mainly concerned with how you know the actual car is a factory GTR - guess it checks out in that regard then! Could have bought a yellow lj xu1 for $20k many moons ago...if only haha

Oh I just realised the body number you mention is the body number from the 'body id' tag but this does not equal the number stamped on the car.....guess there's no way to link the number stamped on the car to the VIN on the long thin plate or the body id plate? The number stamped on the car equals the adr plate though....ah so confusing!

The only way to cross-check if all 4 numbers accord with each is to ask someone with a substantial database of known sets of numbers to see if the subject numbers are contemporaneous.

BTW the number that appears on the ADR tag and is also stamped into the bodywork is commonly known as the Chassis Number (these numbers must be identical).

I believe the three possibilities for the PSN for your GTR are:

L142468 completed on the 27/12/1969 

L142474 completed on the 23/12/1969

L142476 completed on the 22/01/1970 - probably not this one.
