Hi Guys-

Im a newbie so go easy on me.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following-

Do you know if any LC GTR XU1's were ever manufactured in 1969??   Im aware they were not released/ sold until August 1970 but were any actually manufactured in 1969??

Also-  Did LC GTR's and LC GTR XU1's come out registered as a 5 seater or 4 seater??

I have just purchased an LC coupe. It has no ID tags but has all the tell tail signs of a GTR. Flutes. Single brake bracket. And triangular shaped bracket on the firewall with a pivot pin sticking up vertically from it for the accelerator linkage relay lever.

The VIN # is LC03447B

Is there anyone confirm the true model of this car just off the VIN number??

Thankyou so much for your help

Josh

That is not the VIN, it is the chassis number. If you had the VIN you'd know what it was. Other than the actual numbers that count up by one per body the chassis number is the same for all LC bodies built in the Acacia Ridge body plant, it may not have been assembled there as Pagewood assembled LC from Acacia Ridge bodies.

GMH may possibly have built an early XU1 concept in 1969 but it would simply have been a GTR to trial all XU1 ideas and parts on. And it would be an Elizabeth body more than likely.

In the end it is only now an LC if the tags are gone to identify what it once was.

Yes there are oct/nov(?) 1969 GTR's all with 2 tags. There are things to tell you it's gtr but without tags or other info near impossible Think they all they 'seat 5' on tgs although most if not all 69 cars only have 1 rear seatbelt in centre & a plastic cap in wheeltub where others have fittings.

*Did search forum nstood posted chassis number back in Aug '15 not sure any info came up other than someone tried to convert it to lj.

Some time in 1969 until Aug 70 is a long time. I reckon the answer would be no mate.
You would think in 1969 they would still be sorting out the orders etc for triple Stombergs and rear spoilers etc?. As Yel alluded to..maybe a prototype..but not a production vehicle.
If your car has the GTR bracket..then it wouldnt be a GTR-XU1?.
Still. A good find. These things just keep popping up eh.?

You can identify LC GTRS quite easily without tags. In fact, even if they have tags, it doesn't mean much when purchasing as you still need to have the shell verified through the various identifiers. Plenty of rebodies about, so buyer beware.

My LC GTR is missing tags, but has documented history as a GTR as well as identifiables, and I bet, there are plenty of so called GTRs that have tags, that are not in fact GTRs but rather rebodies. You see it all the time.

At the end of the day, buyer beware. In this case, you did not buy it as a GTR as such, so just enjoy it for what it is, a GTR without TAGS. Its still a GTR, just the value wont be as high without the tags. Still more interesting than a 4 door SL imho.
